I am looking for career advice about teaching/training jobs.?We Answered:
You did not say what your bachelor's degree as in. If it is in Math or Science, you can take a test in some states (like California) and start teaching in that subject area in middle school or high school, but that is whole class instruction similar to ESL teaching. You would get placed on the salary schedule and get benefits, however, assuming that there are jobs available. This year even special ed, math and science positions are being cut.If your BA is in another field, you may have to earn a special education credential. That is typically 2/3 of a master's degree in special ed. Since money is an issue, you may want to get yourself a raise by getting a high school position first and you could also speak to a counselor about working for a Title One school and getting tuition reimbursement. There are also student loans. Some employers, like UPS, pay your tuition.
What you are describing as your ideal job sounds like either special education or tutoring. Tutoring does not pay. Special education has its own challenges.
Interestingly enough, I taught ESL for many years before I earned my master's in special education. Even with 4 clear credentials, I may leave California this year to go where both my wife and I can find jobs. Even with degrees, credentials, honors and skills, it is tough to make teaching a career right now.

Weekend / Evening Adult Education Work In East London? We Answered:
Try the Refugee Council. The website (see below) specifically says the Council needs EFL/ESOL teachers, but current vacancies are only during the day.
If you register, they'll know you're available and maybe something will come up.
You could also call into any local centre where people who may have EFL/ESOL needs are likely to meet (local Mosque, Gurdwara etc which may have a training room, normally used for mother-tongue teaching) and ask if you could start up a group. Since the Govt introduced fees for ESOL and imposed ever stricter eligibility criteria, many people who need EFL/ESOL have been excluded from FE/AE classes. You just need to find them!
Hope this helps.

Am I having problems working in education because I'm not getting 'with the program'?We Answered:
it is you.you describe two meetings where you suggested a change to practices, and a third where you disliked the presentation.
As a teacher, you will have to learn office politics. You can isolate yourself in your classroom if you wish - but know that politics is within every aspect of all decisions made at most schools.
I would not have sat through your third example - you could have left. As for the other two - I keep my mouth shut unless:
1. it affects my classroom and kids
2. I am willing to fix it myself.

Should I bring up in a job interview that I teach Adult Education Classes? We Answered:
The person who was interviewing you was an idiot!!If you are teaching business related courses such as how to use word, excel, or general accounting it is VERY RELAVENT. If you are teaching the "basket weaving" classes it might not be related to the job but it helps demonstrate what kind of person you are and as you explained it shows that you have the ability to do presentations.
It sounds like you handled this the best you could have.
My guess is that if you accepted this position, you would continuously face similar challenges.
good luck finding a position that is better suited for you.
