I have a teaching credential in the U.S., 7 years experience, and a Masters in Ed. How do I attain a UK QTC?

We Answered:

You may be able to do a year post-grad course in university, or perhaps you might be eligible for a one year Graduate Training Programme where you get paid and train in a school with time out for theory and a qualified teacher as mentor. (Pay is not great - equivalent to a teaching assistant, but only about 50-75% of timetable, with time for additional studies) It's a lot of work, but a way of getting the QTS without losing out entirely on pay.

Looking for places to get financial aid for an Education Masters when I already have a bachelors in Business!?

We Answered:

Depending on what you want to teach, there are some loan forgiveness programs and tuition reimbursement programs if you are going into a "critical shortage" area to teach. Check with the website of your state, the Department of Education for more info on what is available in your state. Also try:

There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Many $400, $500 or $1000 scholarships never even get applied for because people think it's chump change and not worth applying for. Well, get a few of those $500 scholarships and it'll really make a dent in your tuition bill.

Do a search on scholarships, search your major, your ethnic heritage, your town, your parents employers, your employer, hobbies, high school, local chamber of commerce/rotary/ lion's club etc. Left-handed? There is a scholarship out there for you! Older woman returning to school? There are scholarships out there for you. Do combined searches on more than one criteria "hispanic women aviation scholarships" etc.

Go to the library and ask the reference librarian for a reference book on scholarships. They usually have more than one. There are all kinds of scholarships out there, you just have to start applying yourself and make it your summer career to send out letters everyday for scholarships. Good luck!

Can you get a masters in education without any teaching experience?

We Answered:

Yes. You are able to earn a master in education without prior teaching experience or a bachelors in education. However, if you did have some experience, it would help make your application for masters programs a little stronger. You will still be able to get in without it though, especially if the rest of your application (grades, references, etc..) is high quality.

If you decide to go the online route, there is a quality master of arts in teaching program offered by the USC: http://mat.usc.edu. They accept good applicants who do not have prior teaching experience.

Good luck with your decision.

Masters in Education without current teaching license?

We Answered:

Either would work. In order to get a license, you'll need lots of education classes in addition to coursework in your desired field. You should be able to get all that you need in a licensure program at your local uni. Depending on the state and the school such programs may only take one year. An M.Ed is probably not necessary (but you'd likely get paid more if you had one).
