Ricardo Said:

Is anybody good at history and wants to help me out pleaseeeeee.?

We Answered:

That's a lot of homework questions there. Did you make any attempt to answer at least one question on your own? You can find the answer to each and every one of these questions in your textbook.
Truthfully, why should you expect anyone to do your homework for you, especially if you exert no effort on your own. You end up learning nothing, wasting your teacher's time, and costing your parents money.

Holly Said:

why do mentally handicapped people go to school?

We Answered:

It's not only to learn their ABC's as much as it is to LIVE in Society. They learn social skills in class.

They CAN learn, they just learn differently. Some are very bright but can not express themselves clearly.

Teaching groups of young children pre-K, 6 and 8 year olds -- need help/references to literature!?

We Answered:

Yes...this will be a challenge but you are on the right track so I bet you can make a success out of it! It's definately hard when you don't have your own space...especially if you are in an upper el classroom with a group of preschoolers... we use to do Kindergarten in a middle school science classroom LOL What a challenge.

I suggest first by finding out what exactly they can use and what they can't and make a visual boundary for them. This will work with all the ages. We bought material and taped it over the things they couldn't use. Sometimes we made stop signs (a little english education in the making...write it in English in big letters and then in smaller letters, in their language) and put it on computer screens doors/cupboards etc. We use to push all the desks/tables to either one side or made a circle with them, depending on the style of desks/tables. Plan on doing all your activities on the floor or with just a couple of tables. Takes more time...but the more pronounce the boundaries are, the better your hour will go.

A routine is going to be necessary for you...have a picture schedule with english words. Have them join you directly at a designated area...we, in preschool, call this "circle time". They need a place to go right at the beginning. Use this time to introduce greeting phrases etc. Maybe have a basket of books (in the english language?) for them to look at while waiting for all to arrive. Then start out by going over your picture schedule. You can translate it at the beginning but within a week discuss it in English and encourage the children too as well. It's amazing how well they do. Consider reading an age appropiate story...if you can read it in English and then in their language ...that's perfect. Be sure to point to the pictures and say the English words. I would suggest you choose a theme so that the words are reinforced over and over through the session. Let's see, an hour is not that long so do some music and movement/songs...use scarves, jingle bells, homemade rhythm instruments (a lot of this kind of thing you can make on your own to keep costs down...but consider this...you may come to love this and you'll be prepared for the future classes!) Sing English songs. Play music from our culture. Be sure to have a visual boundary. Depending on how many is in the class, you can say to stay inside the desks...or have hula hoops for them to move in their own individual space. (More expense that way but may be worth it for you). Then move onto an art/craft-using English as much as possible...translating only when there is confusion and then repeat in English. The simple the craft/art the better...use as much vocab as possible. If you have games/manipulatives that is a good "free choice" option for after arts/crafts...since they'll all finish at different speeds. Plan on having them practice their English as they tell you about their product...color, size, features, etc. Have a place where they put them so it's organized when to go home. One place we put them along the wall in the hallway...be sure their name is on their work somewhere! When all are finished you can play a planned group game that focuses on English as well. Good luck! Search the internet for ESL games (English as a Second Language). I've come across a few sites that focus on this.

Behavior control tip: teach them visual signals right at the beginning and practice. It's hard when they are only with you 1 hour a week but it will make life easier on you.

Carole Said:

How to best teach groups of young children pre-K, 6 and 8 year olds? -- need help/references to literature...?

We Answered:

Keep activities to 5 to 15 minutes
Make sure the activities are concrete (hands on) in nature,
songs, outdoor games, patterning, painting, coloring, using jello to create words anything concrete.

Daily:
Come to group for instructions of what you will do that day and keep the procedures ( not activities) the same for every day- 5 minutes
Sing- 15 minutes
Draw- 15 minutes
Dance- 15 minutes
Play a game- 15 minutes
Clean up - 10 minutes
Choose 5 word to learn. Attach them to a pattern.

For example: Listen. Raise your hands. Good.

We will color today.
We will need paper and colors.
Draw yourself and your friend.

Using the child's environment, you can build input.

Remember that the child will at first build comprehensible input and soon after begin to verbalize.

If the children get unruly. Stop the activity and say, Listen, Raise your hand, good. and so on. Children want a safe environment.

This is a very, very brief outline, but it should get you started.

Lisa Said:

is this legit?? for extras in movies?

We Answered:

I have been in about 10 MOVIES and any number of TV programs AS AM EXTRA and I have been lucky to even get a cold hot dog and a warm coke.. let alone $300. Even when I was in the first two Pirates of the CAribbean movies, what little I made barely covered my expenses to sail my boat up to the Bahamas from Antigua.

If they ASK YOU FOR MONEY UP FRONT.. then IT'S A SCAM because NO TEMP AGENCY GET'S PAID BY YOU.. they may charge the production company.. but THEY DON'T CHARGE YOU ANYTHING.

what is proper, legitimate way for me to handle my half crazy kind of woman - my WIFE?

We Answered:

If you are not too busy, why not visit a lawyer or psychologist instead, I am not in position to give you advice. This is just only my suggestion, good luck.

Michele Said:

How can I and this family get the resources they need from the school district?

We Answered:

This is a violation of ADA and 504 (in the US)

GT doesn't really fall under special ed--but some states do include it. it is usually a separate program.

The children should be allowed to enroll in any advanced classes available-most likely with a 504 plan that can include speech therapy and assistive devices for communication or sign language if needed...including an interpreter.

This could be included in special ed (the accommodations) under the other health impaired or communication disability category, but being that they only need accommodations, a 504 plan would be appropriate.

The parents can file a complaint with the government, but the government is generally unresponsive

start by looking up the state Protection and Advocacy office

also the state department of education
.
and the federal education office

A child could have both a disability And be in the Gifted Program.

The can still be in the GT program even if they have an IEP for a disability or a 504 plan.
