special education teacher or speech language pathologist? We Answered:
A am a SLP and I work with autistic students every day. To work in the schools, you will need your masters. If you want to work in clinics and hospitals, you will need another year to complete your certificate of clinical competence (CCC). If you desire to be a special ed teacher, you can check into getting it at the same time, or can get it after another year of school. OR if you decide to be a special education teacher, you can go the teaching route and get special education classes along the way. You will start at a higher pay rate if you get your masters. There is a huge shortage of speech therapists in the schools right now, and there is a good chance you will get hired right away. Special Education teachers tend to get hired from within school districts by moving teachers around who are certified, so there is a slightly smaller chance of employment.
Personally, if you think about opportunites, you will have more as a SLP as you could work in the schools or the medical field. As a Special Ed teacher, you are limited to the schools.
Either way, you will be doing a commendable service.
As for the autism, you could also go to school to become an autism expert and be hired by clinics or schools. Special education teachers for the mild to moderate and moderate to severe students get to work with the more challenging students , while Learning disabilities teachers and Emotional Behavioral Disorder teachers may have more opportunities to work with the higher functioning students with autism, such as those with asperger's.
Best of luck. I highly recommend you go visit a school in your area and ask to follow all of the above teachers and therapists around for a day or week. That should help you make up your mind.

Would you please help me rephrase this in formal English 2?We Answered:
Visual education schools are considered a type of special education school. The latter provide a collection of programs, plans, and strategies designed especially to fulfill the needs of the mentally, hearing, or visually disabled. Special education schools also include teaching methodologies, equipment, and special appliances in addition to assistance services.I was unsure of why you included parentheses, so I removed them. You can, naturally, replace them if it seems prudent to do so.

I am looking for some good Special Education / Emotional impairments / behavior management books? We Answered:
Look up info on Life Space Interview (LSI), Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Positive Behavioral Intervention Strategies (PBIS), and Positive Behavioral Facilitation (PBF). These concepts give a ton of strategies and techniques for managing students with Emotionally Impairment.Geraldine Said:
What are some teaching strategies for children with emotional and behavioral disorders? We Answered:
I think teachers need to be trained to be on the alert for these children and be aware of the "triggers" that can spark these behaviors. Frequently when a child "acts out" in a classroom environment he is responding to subtle and deliberate stimulation from other students. To counter the behaviors the teacher usually singles out and punishes the child with the poor impulse control, much to the amusement of the child who instigates it. Very few teachers seem to be aware of the dynamics in their own school rooms, so the situation worsens with the afflicted child feeling angry and frustrated, unable to concentrate and feeling singled out for punishment.Marion Said:
How can I get my class to be more independent during work times and save time for myself? We Answered:
I'm a fifth grade teacher as well. Lovely us :)This is what I have used in the classroom to help me get a few extra minutes to get things together, etc. I inform my students after I have finished teaching that they will have a few minutes to work silently. I then put a jar or box at the front of the room. The students know that this is the Question Box. When this is up there, they know they are to work silently and if they have a question they can:
1. look up the answer
2. ask the peer directly next to them
3. write it on a slip of paper and put it in the box
After I take my few minutes, I go through the box and answer questions whole class.
It only took my students a week to learn this procedure, understand it, and then be able to use it. I really hope that this helps!
