teacher's assistants are like teachers, except they are usually treated a lot better than the teacher at times. Just remember that you have a bit of authority, and you need to have an authoritative look at things. The kids are there to learn, it is your responsiblity. Because you have that responsibility, you have the power to shape the students. You will usually run errands for the teacher, and coach kids in small groups. It will be fine, if you have a problem, you can always get help. If there is a problem student, you can say that you won't be tutoring him, and that is that. You have rights to work in a safe environment, and there is tough punishment to those who want to break it. Don't worry, it is strange and odd, but if you can handle that, it is a great job! I remember that the aids always were revered, especially when the teacher is strict. With a strict teacher, they will see you as a source of relief. Be patient, kind, and encouraging to students. Kids love it when someone compliments them. Be a role model: kids are kids, they need guidance. I remember there were some memorable teachers aids that helped me with my homework.Dorothy Said:

Chances are that a district will want to hire a TA who has some prior educational coursework or actual classroom experience. However, you might try some private or charter schools.
