Is this online school good for learning Chinese?

We Answered:

I have had a free trial from MasterChinese.

I registered there about 1 months ago. And someone contacted me and offered me a free trial.

I feel good and have learned a lot though the free trial does not take long.

They have good after-class service. They offered me a lot Chinese learning materials and resources. Quite sweet.
And I plan to take formal Chinese learning classes on MasterChinese.

Wish this informative to you.

Why is it imp't to know the similarities and differences of face-to-face vs. online teaching and learning?

We Answered:

in online teaching the student has to be VERY self motivated. you need to do the work at a time you set not the scheduled class time that people are used to in a face to face class

Is there a free site online that teaches you the process of learning guitar?

We Answered:

Recently Metal Method has been posting some free videos on their site that help with learning to play guitar. I own their Complete Course which I credit my entire ability to play guitar. I would suggest investing in their course which is now offered at a discounted rate at : http://guitarlessonreview.info/

you may want to just buy the first few stages of the course to see if you are on track with your playing. You can find those at:
http://www.metalmethod.com/101-28.html

Also, you can get to their forums and free videos by going to:

Hope that helps!

Do you know of any online launage learning systems that are free?

We Answered:

I'm retired and now learning other languages as a hobby. My first is English but can get by in French and Japanese and Read or understand Latin. Hoping to improve my skills in those and add Mandarin Chinese next. Want to eventually master the 20 most common languages.

I have collected a number of study aids on a variety of languages. Email me and I can send you a list of what I have. It may be easier to send you a bunch of cd's or DVD's than email the programs because of size and number.

Let me know what languages you are looking for.

Also transparent languages has a number of free study aids on their site and their products are reasonably priced.

A questionnaire regarding online tutorials/learning...?

We Answered:

Q1) Have you ever used online Tutorials/ E-learning? : Yes, or I wouldn't be answering these questions. Maybe your first question should be, "What subjects or topics have you used online tutorials to learn?"

Q2) If you answered ‘Yes’ in Q1 – Do you find the tutorial helped you understand the topic?
Sometimes. I've done tutorials for computer skills (everything from using MS Office to beginner programming), foreign languages, accounting, graphics, anatomy, etc. It can work very well or not work at all for any topic, depending on how well the tutorial is set up.

Q3) State what aspects of the online learning did you enjoy...
a. It often "cuts to the guts" meaning it gives you the info short and to the point, not lots of verbiage and background.
b. The most helpful thing for me is interactivity with instant feedback, meaning it asks me a question or gives me a problem and then tells me just what's wrong with my work. It may give another chance or a hint, and eventually it will give the correct answer along with an explanation.
c. If it's in game form, great. But it doesn't have to be.

Q4) Do you find that the tutorial to be much helpful than *traditional teaching methods? (meaning worksheets/books)
Not really. I do better with books, workbooks and face-to-face interactive teaching. But it can be quick and it can be good for drilling yourself to learn things. I think I just haven't seen too many really excellent tutorials. A lot of them are just the same as books or workbooks, but on a computer. But they have the potential to be very powerful teaching tools.

Q5) What part of an online learning do you think is the most valuable of all? (Animations? Visual Understanding? Cool Effects? Games? etc.)
As above, instant feedback, though animations and visuals can be very ehlpful, and games can keep you focused and interested.

Q6) Would you make use of any online teaching aids for ANY topics you do not know?
Not for ALL topics, but certainly for some.

Q7) If you answered ‘No’ at Q6, kindly please state why…
For example, I can really screw up when writing a computer program. Debugging tools can't always tell me where and why I went wrong, the way a human can. Tutorials are limited in the same way.

like in any publication, you need to ask permission from the publisher or author of the book. that is if you're referencing directly from a book. Paraphrasing is another alternative.
