University of Phoenix Online Teaching Program? We Answered:
I did not want to go to UOP at first (for my Masters in Ed) but I am a military spouse and UOP was the only school out there that worked to meet my needs. They have contracts with all of the Dodds schools (schools for military children) so that student teaching would be no problem for me even overseas.Because of their reputation, I was still worried. I don't know which base we are going to next, so I called Dept. Ed in several states to ask if they accepted UOP (Ohio was one of those states) and every single HR person said yes and that most of thier current teachers complete their CE's through UOP and more and more teachers were getting their masters through them.
Like anyone else, I do not want to go through a masters program only to discover I can't get a job. I used several resources to decide if it was a good move for me, and all signs pointed to yes. I am not saying that everyone should go to this school, or that it does not do things that warrant the skepticism but I am saying that they are just as accredited, offer valid courses, offer free study guides for the cert. tests and have contracts with tons of schools for student teaching. Also, I have what is called an education specialist and she helps me take care of everything I need to meet my certification requirements. I will be starting student teaching this fall, and so far, I am very happy with my program. It feels legit to me, even though it is very much like a corporation. In the end, once I get a job...who cares if they were like a business or not?
Eventually, I am going to get a degree in Administration and by then, so many other schools will finally jump on board the convenience train, and I will look for a cheaper school to get my D or MA through.
Until then, UOP is meeting all of my needs.
I would say that you should call your HR departments in your area and simply ask. Some people posted here that their states would not take online schools, but I have not ever lived in a state where that was ever an issue. Still, you should check. It is not difficult to do. Just call HR's for districts in your area.
I hope this helps.

What can you share about teaching online at University of Phoenix? We Answered:
I know someone who applied to teach. She worked at an administrator at a higher public school and was turned down because she did not meet some requirements. To teach at UoP you have to have a Masters degree and teach in a certain area to teach that subject. (I.E. Math teachers teach math at the university). The syllabus is given to you prior. You can not make changes. You are given all the material and information on what is expected of you. The administration is supportive and you can rely on them for help, when needed. Everything is in the handbook so there really are no doubts.
The quality of students are mainly older, who are trying to go back to college to obtain a degree while working full time, or who have other commitments that interfere with them going to a normal week day university. The classes are about the same as a University and some classes require more, some require less. This is anywhere you go, whether it be online or in a class environment. You have teachers who are easy and others who are hard. It's really what fits your schedule. Same with students at any University....some intelligent and there to learn...some unwilling to participate. I have attended both UoP and our state university and they are really the same. Some look down on an online college but really it is the same environment and learning tools. I found that UoP sometimes required a little more (homework & participation wise...) where as my state University only gave 3 tests and those were your grades.
UoP does ask for a resume and are kind of technical on who they hire. They have to be up to date on all curriculum and standards. It is a 3 step hiring process. Hope this helps you!

Does California accept the Arizona Certificate for teaching from Ashford University (online)? We Answered:
No they will not take one. You have to get it from an accredited college and not a 'certificate' program. If you try to take your 'degree' from Ashford you will see that none of your credits will transfer over.Patricia Said:
How much can I earn teaching art at an online University? Can I teach from Europe? We Answered:
I am not sure what schools the other poster refers to but my experience with teaching online has been a fraction of the amount stated by her. If you are "part time", then you can expect to be paid prorated based on the number of students in the "virtual class". I have been paid as little as $1,000 to teach a course, which barely makes it worth it. The core hour breakdown for that is not a lot and of course, there is no "core hour" for distance learning usually but based on a traditional school, it works out to about USD$20 an hour. On a bright note, I teach from a foreign country also and that makes my earnings from teaching tax free until I hit a certain threshhold, which never happens since teaching is my "part time" job. Good luck, but truthfully, you "can" make $3,000 a course, but you better have a "ton" of students enrolled.Phyllis Said:
