A primary license is no longer practical. I am surprised that they still offer it. With a primary license you can only teach 1-3 grades. The more practical license is an elementary license which is 1-6. You are more marketable with an eled license because you can teach more grades. It also might be a good idea to get a kindergarten endorsement or a middle school endoresment.Theresa Said:

Several UK institutions offer combined degree programmes in Maths and Maths Education, although for most of them the education element relates to secondary level (i.e. ages 11-18).Chichester University offer a degree course in Primary Education (Mathematics).
Alternative routes would be to do a B. Ed. (Bachelor of Education) degree in Primary Education, e.g. Uni of Brighton do a 4 year B.Ed. in Primary Education (5-11 yrs) with Qualified Teacher Status - although the normal B.Ed. courses tend to be more general in nature - or a another route would be a normal Bachelors degree in Mathematics (normally 3 yrs) followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education ("PGCE Primary", usually 1 yr).
Your niece's school should have a careers advisor who would be able to give her more information about these and other courses, and if so, I would strongly advise that your niece go and talk to him/her.
