Can I Primary School Teach In Australia, England Or America?

We Answered:

Yes, you can. For America, you will first need to apply to various colleges. Then, you need to send a transcript of your courses to the universities/colleges you wish to go to to see what undergraduate requirements you may be needing (there probably will not be a problem). You would also probably need to take the ACT or the SAT to enter.

HELP - Does anyone know what I have to do to change from High School teaching to Primary Teaching?

We Answered:

Your mindset is the biggest thing to change when changing grade levels in teaching. In the USA, a teaching certificate typically allows someone to teach any level K - 12. In Australia, you may need to check with the Board Of Education for specifics on what it takes to change over. It shouldn't be too difficult. Good luck.

I'm British but would like to study primary school teaching in Australia?

We Answered:

G'day

There are only 41 universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly controlled, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content.

To find out the course that you are taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification (in English and original language). The process will take abt 2-3weeks, depending on the time of the year.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your studies :)

Questions about Primary School Teaching in [Western] Australia?

We Answered:

1. Would you recommend this profession? Why/why not?
Low pay, no respect, no power, no control over the children, no capacity for discipline, abusive parents, huge class sizes, a curriculum that that expands weekly teaching everything from etiquette to personal hygiene ...
2.Are males highly sought after?
Yes. Males won't go into this profession since it has become little more than babysitting, you constantly face the unspoken accusation of child abuse, heaven forbid you try to comfort a hurt child. They desperately need men to control the older boys, who, knowing they cannot be punished, are just out of control
3. What's a typical day like?
Suck one and see. Go into a classroom for a week or two BEFORE you sign up to do an education degree. Some of them: it's like a war zone.
4. Is it more work when you're in the beginning years?
You or the students? For you, yes, no question. Teaching the younger ones can be easier. It depends on your personality.
5. If you get there early, can you leave at 3-ish?
LOL. In short, no. You might be able to leave but you'll be taking work home. Seriously, volunteer at a school. You obviously have no idea what you're getting yourself into.

How can I become a primary school teacher in Australia?

We Answered:

Hello my fellow kiwi :-D

I am currently studying to be a primary school teacher through Massey University. When I started the course here, it was a 3 year course, but has gone up to a 4 year course now (in which the student teachers will come out on a higher qualification than I will). However, there is the option to do an additional year (post-grad) to gain the same qualifications as them.

Anyway ~ I have been doing some searching of the web for you, and it seems that in Australia, they have the "Masters of Teaching (Primary)" which is a 2 year course (with some admission requirements) here's the link (it's in Melbourne too)-

http://www.latrobe.edu.au/handbook/2007/…

You may find that the 2 year course is no where near as intense as the NZ course, and therefore if you do become qualified, if you decide to come back to NZ and teach, you may be required to sit an additional year or 2 to get the Bachelor of Education (Teaching Primary).

Good luck with your ventures :-)
