Would volunteering at a primary school for 2 hours a week help me to get into into a Primary teaching course?

We Answered:

yes of course-it shows willing on your part and a determination to get into school. It will however also help you understand how schools work on a different level. You will begin seeing things through a teachers eyes and watch both how control, behaviour, assessment, planning, teaching, differentiation and special needs works.
You will see from a distance the workings of a classroom and of course if you make a good impression you could be setting up yourself for a job in that school when you have trained.
One suggestion though, if you arrange to go in on a Friday morning you will only see what happens on Friday mornings. The lessons, etc etc will be the same. I recommend that you do maybe six weeks on one day and time then another at another day and time so you get experience of the whole curriculum and school week.

Good luck

How difficult is it to get an Early years teaching postgraduate course in the UK What type candidates get in?

We Answered:

Depends more where you are applying to. Not 100% sure about course in england but in scotland some of the universities are at least looking for a degree (hons is not necessary) plus English at higher/A level and Mathematics at Standard grade/GCSE and an interest in working with children. I wouldn't worry about the degree as history (and some politics) are part of the curriculum. They are more interested in any experience you have had in youth work adn your interest in teaching.
Interviews again vary depending on the univeristy though quite a few tend to involve a group discussion and a solo presentation based on one of three statements (provided pre interview)

Stranmillis University

Franklin Said:

Can you do the equivalent of a PGDE Primary teaching course in Dubai?

We Answered:

I've got no idea Zoe but I'd imagine that the UK would recognise it as there's an incredibly high possibility that Dubai University is a world-class place of study.

Given Dubai's huge investment in infrastructure and the drive to be the hub of the middle east - coupled with no shortage of finance to ensure everything is of the highest quality - I don't think a University that takes the country's name would want for anything.

So I'd say it's a very well-calculated risk to take the opportunity.

Good luck.

Primary Teaching.....?

We Answered:

For most schools there is no "best primary school teaching course". There are required courses for each certification and your adviser will be able to tell you the best courses to take and in what order to take. The courses are determined by the College Advisory Board and your state's department of education ...

Hope this helps ...
