whatm highers would be useful to get into uni to do primary teaching and wat grades will i need?

We Answered:

Used to be 7 points required - work it out like this.....
A=3 points
B=2 points
C=1 point

I got in to the B.Ed course with 9 points, from 5 Highers. It's probably changed now though.

English is a must and maths preferred. Try to get experience being a helper in a primary school one afternoon a week, maybe in your 6th year. When applying, the powers that be will be looking for some experience, no matter how limited.

Good luck. It's a good job - infuriating at times but rewarding more often.

Jeanne Said:

what qualifications do I still require to apply for teacher training in scotland? ?

We Answered:

Do I need a degree to teach in Scotland?
Yes. For secondary teaching in Scotland, your degree must be relevant to the subject you wish to teach.

Do I need to have a teaching qualification?
In general, yes. And you'll need to provide documentary evidence of an official transcript of your Professional Qualifications.

This evidence should show the age range and subjects which apply to your professional education. If it doesn't, you'll need to get documents from your university or college.

What if I don't have a teaching qualification?
It will be much more difficult to get registration if you don't have a teaching qualification.

However, if you have long and relevant teaching service (as well as detailed referee reports on this service), the GTCS may be able to consider this instead of a teaching qualification.

Conditional offer for Primary Teaching at Scottish University?

We Answered:

It depends how popular the course is really.

If you don't get 3Bs they are entitled to give your place to someone else if they want to.
If there are lots of other people with 4Bs who want to do the course they may well give it to them. However if you are close to 3Bs and there is not much competition for the course then they may still offer it to you, but obviously there are no guarantees.

If you are doubtful then you should probably look at some other courses which need lower grades and might not be full as a backup plan.

Good luck!

ps 3 Bs is the minimum so they could still reject you with A, B, C because it's not 3Bs. Hopefully they wouldn't be this mean!
