Tonya Said:

what is the difference between the primary framework for teaching literacy and the national literacy strategy?

We Answered:

Very little I suspect. Neither of them work well hence we have 12 million illiterate or semi-illiterate adults in the UK.

Hugh Said:

Should primary children just learn literacy and numeracy?

We Answered:

education means so much more than basic skills, apart from anything else other subjects should make a contribution to the basic skills, also motivation is a key factor in basic skills success, a curriculum of exclusively literacy and numeracy sounds like a recipe for boredom and disaffection

Dave Said:

Primary Teaching today?

We Answered:

not fully sure what you mean, are you talking about numbers and then applying basic maths? How i feel is different from a 2 year old for example... it's difficult because children will learn at different rates, if you rush then the slower ones might loose the plot and not understand anything. Association with images is good because it uses different parts of the brain, goodluck

Derek Said:

ADMISSION OF FAILURE? - PRIMARY SCHOOLS ARE TO BE ABLE TO TEACH NUMERACY AND LITERACY AS THE SEE FIT.?

We Answered:

Oh how boring is our Government, how predictable. All the money wasted on the N/L hours and the resources bought and for what? Yet another experiment involving the education of our children. All so Education ministers can make a 'name' for themselves.
Of course there must be National standards but teachers have long known how to teach these subjects and how to get the best from their pupils. The tunnel vision of the education system at the moment breeds children able to sit tests but are totally devoid of any General Knowledge . All round education is a thing of the past and teachers have been stifled in their teaching.
Maybe with a return to topic based teaching children will be allowed to learn and teachers allowed to teach something other than how to get good marks in the Sats.
