Is there such a thing as a foreign language major? i want to teach foreign language at a high school level. ?We Answered:
In the U.S. most colleges and universities offer foreign language majors. It is easiest to find schools with programs in languages such as Spanish, French and German, but there are plenty of other languages offered as majors. Most schools have basic degree requirements so you would be required to take classes in many different subjects to get a well-rounded education. Then, most of your classes would obviously be within your chosen major including dialogue and literature classes in the foreign language.
Many schools also require that you spend some time (perhaps a semester or year) in a foreign country studying the language that you are majoring in. In order to teach a foreign language at a high school level you may also need to get teaching credentials, so you are likely to need to take some education classes as well.
Another popular career path for foreign language majors is business administration.

Why teach preschoolers a foreign language? We Answered:
Children are like sponges. They can learn things that adults cannot in a very efficient way. Children have an easier time learning a second language then adults. They retain more and are more likely to become fluent. It also increases their memory skills and helps them to become better thinkers. The window for learning a language sort of closes in adolescence, when most language is taught, so it is much harder.Cynthia Said:
what is the standard school degree to teach a foreign language? We Answered:
Here in Canada teacher's MUST have a Bachelor's degree and teaching certification. For most language teachers, this means a four-year Bachelor's degree in a language like French or Spanish and then a two-year Bachelor's degree in Education. If you're already fluent in the language you want to teach, it would be easier for you to do a four-year Education degree focusing on Second Languages. Without a degree and teaching certifcation you will not be eligible for any jobs. I'm linking to a four-year program that you could take in Canada to be eligible for teaching positions.

How can I teach foreign language lessons? We Answered:
You cannot learn to teach a foreign language in 5 minutes or in 5 hours. It takes training and study. You should also see what kind of teaching/learning your students need. Sometimes the traditional method is required and other times unconventional methods work best. Also, it depends a lot on your students ages, it's not the same to teach kids or teenagers or adults. There are many factors to consider if you want to teach AND to teach it well AND to have it learned well. If you're a young adult interested in teaching, I'd suggest you try for a part time job at an institute where they teach this foreign language. They have training courses for you to work there. I started that way in 1992 ;-) Good luck!Sherri Said:
