Does anyone know of a Berlitz school located in Bavaria Germany or the Germany-Switzerland border area?

We Answered:

Closest Berlitz school to Lindau is in Feldkirch / Austria about 50 km to the south.

In Germany Ulm (100 km to the north) is the least distant Berlitz school.

I'd suggest also contacting the Volkshochschule (VHS) in Lindau; maybe they're interested in a qualified teacher or can give you further advice:

Is there much demand for English teachers in Switzerland?

We Answered:

Teaching in Bern without knowing German fluently...? Sorry to say so, but I think you better forget about such a thing. Additionally, regardless of the lenght of your relationship, consider the rules: You must provide specialized skills that a Swiss or EU citizen can't provide in order to apply for a work visa. Actually, you must first convince a possible employer that you have those skills because it's him that applies for a permit. Additionally, he must proof that he had unseccsessfully published such a job in newspapers before. Only then you might have a slight chance. Still, looking at the Swiss labor market which suffered from the worldwide downturn too, I wouldn't be too optimistic...

I know, this sounds as if I would like to turn you down - but I think it's better to confront you with the plain truth then let arise false hopes.

With an Aussie passport, you can however stay in Switzerland up to half a year. But don't even think about working then - the Swiss would expell you as consequently as if I worked without a permit in Oz.

Last but not least I cite an Aussie immigration officer to whom I once spoke when I was in Australia and inquired about a work permit. After having found out that I had no official chance, he said: "And why don't you marry an Australian national?"... The same in your case would work the other way round :-)
