I want to live in Peru. Is it possible to teach english in Peru and earn enough money to sustain myself?

Sure
Life in Peru is cheap
You can live with 100$ a month quite well.
It's really a poor country.
We'll see with the elections what changes...

Rick Said:

Should I teach English in Peru?

We Answered:

Piura is like a small city in Peru and has a surf city called Mancora,(www.vivamancora.com) you will like it but you can get bored after a while unless you are a soul-surfer or become one. I would teach in Piura for some time and then Lima or Cuzco. I think you would like Cuzco more than Piura. Anyways, there are lots of people from the US and Europe living in Piura, I think if you go to "restaurants" on the link I provided, you would be able to contact them, many are either backpackers or business owners (hotels and restaurants).

Either way GO FOR IT!!! Peruvian people are amazing!!

but the pay won't be much UNLESS you target the private sector like the best private Catholic schools and universities as the pay well and private tutoring too. (In Lima)

But you won't make much as the US but the cost of living will be less too......I would go for it and take the opportunity ......you won't have another one later. What you have to loose?

Audrey Said:

If I have an A.A. in english, can I get hired to teach English in Peru?

We Answered:

Peru, just like many other countries in the world will hire you without the TEFL/TESOL certificate, but you will make substantially less money without the proper credentials. Also, the school that hires you must keep it under the table, as you are technically an illegal worker in their country, and teaching gets you some pretty hefty fines if you are not qualified. The school stands to lose their license, therefore their livelihood, so they will not want to take big chances. You can get terminated without cause and you don't even exist on their payrolls, so you can't file a grievance.

Cathy Said:

How long can I teach English in Peru?

We Answered:

I am pretty sure your kids would be fine in Peru, it is a wonderful place! I don't know anything about how the visas work but if you need some information you could contact some of the institutes like INIPUCP or ICPNA and I'm sure someone could help you with that. Here's the e-mail address for INIPUCP: idiomas@pucp.edu.pe
good luck!

I want to go teach english in Mexico/Peru this winter. How do I go about having flight and funds added.?

We Answered:

I am not totally clear what your question is. Are you ESL certified? It really helps in getting work here. There is a good chapter on ESL teaching in "Head for Mexico" by Don Adams you should read.

If you are asking about having someone pay for your flight down, I doubt that you will find anyone to do that since there are so many gringos with teaching experience already living here.
