Really it depend on what country you are from. There are loads here in the UK. Kumon, Muzzy, Dora the explorer?... there are CD courses say through linguaphone, go to your local toy, early learning centre, see what they have to offer, books and audio, go to your library, do you have a local Spanish community whom you could ask for help? Of course you should. You never know what their future could hold. It should not matter whether they are Puetro Rican or not. What if one day they decide to trace their heritage back and travel. How many countries in the world speak spanish? and even if they never leave America the job oportunities they would have open to them by being able to speak 2 language! I only wish now my mother had made me learn another language when I was a child. It is so easy to learn when young. I now struggle and try to find time. I think it is a very nice way for little children to learn, not only another language, but to also appreciate the cultural value and the culture itself of other people. The fact that a little children can at least learn to say some Spanish words to share with a friend, has a big value...both for the English speaker and the Spanish speaker.I understand points like Sweet Dreamer's, but it is not like the show wants to make people stop speaking English. Why would it be bad for people to know an additional language? Isn't it just an advantage? Incidentally, Dora's show here in Latin America teaches children to speak English, the exact same way it teaches Spanish over there. It is a very nice chance for children to learn.
Would people mind if it taught children Afrikaans or German? What about Yiddish or French? Why is it that many French people speak Spanish and viceversa? Because they are countries right next to the other...why you would not like to understand what your neighbor says?
