What "Life Skills" are important to teach High Schoolers? We Answered:
Definitely how to budget, understanding credit card agreements (interest and terms, etc). How to apply for a loan, easy nutritional meals that can be made in a hurry, how to study more efficiently, etiquette, scheduling and planning ahead, creating a spread sheet, process for starting a business, networking principles, caring for a child, simple repairs/ fixes around the home, designing a simple website, and I've also included two links to a Montessori High School's curriculum so you could get more ideas. I hope all of this helps!Oh, also find out what they are studying in their other classes and give them clear real life examples and projects in which they have to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the real world.

Do you beleive that they should have classes that teach actual life skills in school? We Answered:
They have classes like the ones you mention--in the community college near where I live. This is too late--these skills should be taught starting in elementary school (so should foreign languages--but that's another story--much easier to learn when young). It is a shame that so much parenting has been turned over to schools. When it came time that nearly all parents needed to work full-time--the government stepped in, and monitored our children in schools--like numbers, not like individuals or loved-ones.
Another thing they should bring back to the schools are classes in the arts, 'shop', cooking, sewing, etc.--in addition to carpentry, auto repair, secretarial, nursing assistant etc.--so that the kids who cannot go to college (or don't want to) at least have some knowledge in a field.
All the emphasis is placed on algebra--a subject which hardly anyone ever uses in 'real' life (except by algebra teachers, etc). Life skills, and job skills should be taught. Very good question.

How do you teach a life skills group to adolescent boys?We Answered:
Teaching anything is easy when u:1. Tell about it, ie explain.- Theory.
2. Show how it is done, by doing it yourself - Practical.
3. & Repetition - Practice.
4. Keep up their energy & motivation.
These 4 combine to make a heady drink.
These are how the terrorists are trained now a days, If it work for poor, illiterate, fools like them.... then it would definately work with the school boys.
And U have to know each boy/ girl by their name. It brings in the personal touch that he feels that u like him, (especially as u had mentioned adolesent age group)
