Can foreigners still teach at kindergartens and if not, why is Hess running TV adds with western teachers ?

We Answered:

Yes, westerners can teach in kindergartens. Is it legal? Depends how you look at it. :) Everyone has their own interpretation of the laws and I am sure as you have learned, everyone does something illegal in Taiwan, and it's all a game (i.e. illegal street vendors and police driving them away, but only to come back in a few minutes to set-up shop).

Anyway, no kindergartens cannot get a work permit for a foreigner to teach in their school, but they get around it by applying through a bushiban. If the school is raided by police (only when they recieve complaints from competitors or annoyed parents), often the foreigner's presence can be explained... if s/he is not actively teaching. The foreigner can be an observer (trainee), visitor, etc.

It really is all a game and it's been going on for decades. I would not worry about it. If you are interested in working for a kindergarten, apply for the job.

Why are kindergarten children taught to share in places like America that embrace capitalism?

We Answered:

There's nothing wrong trying to teach a child to be generous and giving. Those are two human traits that should be valued.

Sergio Said:

If our children HAVE to go kindergarten as the school teachers insist, then why are they there as teachers?

Should I teach Kindergarten or 1st Grade?

We Answered:

I would choose grade 1 because they've had a year of getting used to the school system so they know what you mean when you say form a straight line and cross your legs on the carpet.
Kindergarten on the other hand gives you more of that sense of ownership at your job because you are molding them, shaping them and basically their mommy or daddy for 10 months.

Janice Said:

Should I teach Kindergarten or 1st Grade? (Real Situation)?

We Answered:

I have only taught 4th and 6th grade. I have no idea where I will be when school starts in August because of teachers being moved around. If I had a choice over the 2 grades I would chose 1st grade. K has to learn phonics also, at least in my state. I would chose 1st grade because they are little more maturer than K. K is the foundation and I don't feel comfortable teaching "babies". I guess teaching older kids make me feel like I would be too hard on them......

Melissa Said:

Why do you need a master's degree to teach kindergarten?

We Answered:

I think that requirement is ridiculous. I imagine it's for accreditation and quality assurance. However a degree guarantees nothing. There are many excellent teachers without a graduate degree

Why does Obama want to teach sex ed to kindergarten students?

We Answered:

Because he is a liberal. It is disgusting that anyone would ant to teach sex ed to five year olds. We can let kids be kids for a while and maybe hold off on sex ed until 5th or 6th grade..
