Teaching worth it in the long run?We Answered:
I think in this economy every job has it's disappointments. Teaching is coming under fire in many states as they cut education funding. If you're in it to affect the future, and hopefully give students an education to do whatever they may wish to do... then yeah. In my limited experience it is worth it. As a paycheck, you may wish to get into a different field.Terry Said:
Emergency Teaching credential for the State of CA?We Answered:
This credential is to be able to teach and it is sort of temporary so you should be getting your regular certificcate before the start of next year to keep the job you get this year. A BA degree is the minimum qualification. I haven't had one in CA or anywhere, but I used to be a state union rep in Ohio and we had temporary certification. They could get a job so long as no certified teacher was available. The next year, if there was a certified teacher they got the job instead of the temporary cetified teacher so it is important for the temporary certified to get their actual credentials in that year. usually means taking methods class and a few other classes. Contact the Teacher Certifification division of the State dept of ed and ask them what the criteria is and what classes you need for the actual regular certification. That may change depending on the subject area or even grade area.
There will be a cost for a certificate. I'd have to guess but I'd think $100-150 maybe. I doubt the cost will change from the subject area. I don't know if it is the same as regular certification or not.
You need to find your own link but it should start with California Department of Education. Could be California Education Department. Check it out and find the certification section and it should have it all there. The website will have a gov behind it so you know it is regular site and not a site about it or someone trying to get you to do something that costs you.
My son-in-law is a teacher in California. His wife is a substitute as she still has a little one at home and 2 teenagers at home. My S-I-L started as you did as a emporary as his degree was in business. He wanted to be a teacher. He began and took classes and now has a masters degree. He has taken a bit at a time. Some districts (at least in Ohio in the union) had tuition reimbursement to help out. And continuing education is required anyway.
Good luck to you.

Know of any teaching jobs this summer in San Diego? We Answered:
try the san diego zoo or sea world. both have day camps and overnight camps. teachers are needed for those positions during the summer. might not pay very much, but it seems very fun and it's rewarding. apply now if you are interested.as for landing a teaching position for summer school, those jobs are usually taken first by resident teachers who are already teaching at the public schools. you could try the private schools.
