Can I get a PhD in Science Education and teach community college?

We Answered:

A PhD doesn't actually give you much of an edge when it comes to teaching at community college. That's because a PhD is basically a research degree, but community colleges don't expect you to do any research - they'll have you teaching 5 classes a semester, and are much more interested in your teaching skills.

Here's a good website that lists current job openings at colleges and community colleges, and what they are looking for in applicants. The TA experience will definitely help. http://www.higheredjobs.com

How much does a college professor make teaching compuer science?

We Answered:

It depends on the college and what title you hold.

Ex. Adjunt Professor
Assistant Professor
Tenure Professor (Full Time)

Just guessing it is either by the number of students or just the class. I would say about 2,500-3,000 dollars per class without a full time postion which are hard to find.

You could expect to teach anywhere from 1-4 classes a semester.

Full time is completly different and I have no idea but it would be considerably more. Most full time guys get 60,000-80,000

Teaching at a California Community College?

We Answered:

I hate to burst your bubble, but because of the budget crunch in CA, most teachers at a Community College are only hired part time. They teach a couple of courses at best. It may take years to get to full time.
By the way, a masters in CA is not too high a degree for high school. It takes 5 years of college to get a full teaching credential in CA (even to teach kindergarten) and many people get their Masters during that time. Get your teaching credential to get experience.

What is a good equine science college?

We Answered:

If you want to teach in HS, you will need to get a teaching certificate. What I would do is go to college and major in Equine Science, but minor in education (so you can get the teaching certificate. So, once you have your BS degree, you can teach. Teach for a few years, then go back and get your Master's. OR, you can graduate from College, get a job teaching and go to grad school part time to get your Masters and then your PhD. Once you have your PhD, you can then start working at a Univ.

How is uni/college science different to high school science?

We Answered:

Well the general format is much different than high school (unless you're at a CC). In general you will go to a lecture 2 or 3 times a week from 1hr-1.5hrs and you will get a general background in what you are covering in that course. Similar to high school courses in that the majority of the class will be spent taking notes and the class size is normally upwards of 100+ people in general ed classes. But most "hard" science (biology, chemistry, physics, etc..) classes have a lab component in which you will be with maybe 20-40 people doing things "hands on" that usually coincide with the lecture.

Whether it is more enjoyable, it depends, as said above there are good teachers and crappy ones. It really has to do with how their style is. I have had really bad teachers and good ones, but never have I had a series of classes where all I got was good or bad.
