Are block schedules effective for students?

We Answered:

i went to a highschool that had block scheduling. we had a total of eight periods(subjects) we had four on one day, and the following day the next four. i really enjoyed it. instead of having the average 45 minutes per class, our school had 1 1/2 hour classes. this allowed teachers to take their time with the lessons and not feel rushed. we were given more time to ask questions and do in-class activities. I know many of the students enjoyed it because it gave them more time to finish hw, considering we got two days to do it instead of one. and we only had 4 subjects to worry about each night instead of all 8.
in middle school i had all 8 classes in one day, and didn't experience block scheduling until high school. in middle school, i would get so stressed. i was so worried about just having enough time to finish my hw instead of the quality of it. i was stressed in high school, but about other issues, like college, SATs, and various other things. but i was never really worried about hw, or comprehension, because the teachers always had time to answer questions in class.
i definately believe block scheduling is beneficial, and it prepares them for college.

What is meant by "core teaching strategies"?

We Answered:

Core means "the innermost part of something." To me core teaching means teaching from your evaluation/assessment process. You teach the categories you assess to show progress in learning. I use High Scope Curriculum in my class. There are many areas involved in this curriculum and I'm required to teach from the core of this curriculum. Heres an example: Math and Science is the subject. Sorting objects is one category under this subject. I plan to use buttons to teach sorting. Children sort on various stages. I'm looking for children to sort into color groups. This is a 2 on the scale. Children who tell me how they sorted is a 3. Children who sort by 4 holes and no holes but are still the same color score a 4. I have just taught a core object based on individual abilities. The core being sorting. I hope this makes sense.

What is your favorite teaching strategy?

We Answered:

i like active learning in which instructor allow students to talk and listen, read, write, and reflect as they approach course content through problem-solving exercises, informal small groups, simulations, case studies, role playing, and other activities -- all of which require students to apply what they are learning

We Answered:

Yeah, having the same problem, I'm filling out an online job app right now that I'm looking at.

I put blooms taxonomy and the Koday method (Kodaly is music specific)

I figure if it's not right at least blooms is good.
