Why is teaching Science Compartmentalized style better than teaching it like its inter-related?

We Answered:

Despite the truth that science is interrelated, a course in its interrelation would have to be basic or risk being convoluted and confusing, which is what would happen if it were to focus on specificities of each area of science in one single course. They do have basic courses that focus on its interrelation to other areas of science, but for those wanting a career in specific areas, these compartmentalized areas in advanced sciences are easier to follow. Also, for those not aiming for careers in such areas, the compartmentalization of advanced sciences ensures that it is unecessary for them to learn more than what is basic.

Is Earth Science good for third grade?

We Answered:

Earth Science is a common subject taught in third grade. One of the great joys of homeschooling is that children can learn whatever subjects they're interested in at any time. You don't have to limit yourself to what is taught at specific grades in school. My 5th grade daughter wanted to study Biology, including dissections, this year so that's what we did. We're also lucky enough to have a zoo and a wildlife preserve near us that both offer excellent homeschool classes. Look for organizations in your area such as zoo's, nature and science museums, and homeschool co-op's that can help add to your science program.

Have fun!
