You were born in Canada, so that makes you a native English speaker. I'm not sure if being East Indian will work against you or not. But you have a good background that will put you above others.Average pay is 250,000 yen a month. It's been that way for years. There's schools all over Japan, so you could be sent almost anywhere. Not likely Tokyo though. They'll send you where they need someone. So if you tell them you'll work anywhere, you'll have a better chance of being hired.

There is a huge demand for native English speaking tutors in Saudi and you can make really decent money just by giving private lessons in your home. Private lessons are definitely the way to go, you will make much better money doing that than if you teach at a center for learning English, and you will also be able to teach one person at a time so you can give each person your undivided attention.Most of the people here just want you to teach speaking so they can pick up on your accent. You probably won't even need a certificate, I teach private lessons and no one has ever asked about my degree, although I do have one.
I use to work in an international school and when I decided that I wanted to do private lessons instead, I put an ad in one of the local classified papers and in the first 3 days after the ad was run I got 200 phone calls(no I'm not joking) everyone from low income families to the royal family called. I chose the people who I thought I would like to work with and have a waiting list of about 20 other people.
A couple of things to be warned about.... some people will prefer that you give lessons in their house rather than yours, I would advise against that, first of all for your personal safty and secondly because some people here don't respect people who work in other people's houses and treat them like servants. Also some people here may be late paying you, if they are over a month late I would cut my losses and stop working for them because they may get so many months behind with your money that you never end up getting all of what you are owed. But don't let that scare you, about 95% of people here do actually pay, it might just be a bit late.
Teaching English is also a really good way of giving charity. There are plenty of underprivilaged children here whose live's could really benifit from learning English. You could get a few of them from the same age group together and teach them an hour a day. Good luck!!!!

I am an ESL teacher myself. It is easy to get a job teaching overseas. And the jobs overseas are in high demand for native speakers. If you obtain your TESL certification it would help you get a better paying job. As for the Canada, it can only help your chances of getting a good job. Although there is a market for TESL jobs they are harder to obtain in Canada and the US. You usually need to have a B.A in Education and certification (TESL< TEFL) most jobs like this prefer that you have a Masters Degree. Hope this helps.Roland Said:

A soft sided brief case looks professional & can double as a purse / carry on bag. NEVER put anything in checked baggage that you can not afford to be without during your trip. My brief case bag never caused a problem. They can X-ray, but if they want to look, it opens up quite well with expansion that they can easily look into quickly & you waste less time with security.
