How do good teachers strike a balance between the art and the science of teaching? We Answered:
There are some "good teachers" who are born teachers, but not that many. Most "good teachers" struggle through uni and student teaching, get terrified by their first few years and work hard at their chosen occupation. They do in-service courses, further education, read, talk to their colleagues and absorb the science of teaching slowly but surely. Then one day something clicks. It all comes together. They start to like the subject they teach because they know it. They start to really like the students because they know what makes them tick. They even have a grudging respect for the school system because they have worked out how it works. Now your "good teacher" can walk into any class and connect with the students. They prepare their lessons well but they can adapt on the spot. The students like these teacher because they know that these teachers know the work and can teach it to them. They trust these teachers.
This is the "art" of teaching and good teachers have it. It is built on the science of teaching which good teachers constantly try to learn. However, teaching is truly an art which "good teachers" work hard to master.
