How to land a teaching job teaching calculus in high school? We Answered:
In many schools, upper-level classes (in any department) are assigned based on seniority.I would conjecture that a good approach is to interview for a job in teaching math--with some time and experience, you WILL teach calculus. (But you might start with "Math Fundamentals," "Math for Daily Living," Algebra I to 11th graders, etc.)

How do you overcome nepotism when looking for a teaching job?We Answered:
I have taught at two different schools out of my home state knowing no one in that state, let alone someone on the school board. Not to mention, though the school board approves all hiring decisions, it's usually the principal who makes them.Honestly, I've rarely seen student teachers get hired at the school at which they student teach. This usually isn't nepotism, I believe. Just a reluctance to hire first year teachers.
My answer to your question is to keep applying. You don't need to have connections to find a good teaching job, but depending on what state you're in, it may require a couple years of trying. I know plenty of Ohio teachers who had to wait to be where they really wanted to be.

What does it take to get a teaching job in Conroe ISD?We Answered:
If you just recently moved, dont despair just yet. CISD did the first round of hiring for their top picks, but the principals are still working and if you are alert to the online job postings, an opening can come up any day and if you can apply faster than others, you might get in. Also, if you have your ESL, Special Ed, or Bilingual certification meanwhile, that will really give you a head start on other candidates.Luis Said:
How can I enhance my extracurricular experience to get a teaching job?We Answered:
Were you ever on debate team, soccer team, etc? If you play or do those add them to resume as other experience. You could check with soccer teams and see if they need a volunteer assistant. What high school or college clubs were you in? If you get reading certification you would have better chance to be hired. What do you do well? Volunteer at the school where you would like to work - as an assistant in one of those areas. Sign up for substitute work. It is an "in". If they can't find a teacher, if you can teach it they can hire you with temporary certification and you have the year to take classes to qualify. Next year could get regular certification a d be hired for the job. May be long term sub in maternity leave where teacher plans to return.Good luck.
