Ruben Said:

For Filipinos, what is your main problem in English language learning?

We Answered:

Conversational English is where most learners fail. Sometimes, students have impeccable writing skills but when they try to conduct a conversation in English, this is interjected with lots of "whiskers", like ah, um er,... etc... Speaking the English language should be encouraged therefore by implementing the" all English method" of instruction and not the bilingual one. This is a skill that could only be developed through constant practice and application.

Lisa Said:

What could be a good topic for research on language education or language learning?

We Answered:

Some teachers and I were arguing this very thing yesterday. Some of us feel that language is better taught using the holistic approach. Meaning it should be taught through conversation, reading, and with the technical part of language, grammar, taught in conjuction as a byproduct of language. Grammar is important and should be taught but a natural approach to language is the way we learned from childhood, imitation: speak first then learn the rules.

Other teachers feel that the technical part of language is important to teach right away in order to give students a road map.
So, to answer your question. Maybe your research could be... Should we teach language using the holistic approach or should we teach language in isolation: grammar, vocabulary and drills?
Good luck.

Ivan Said:

Does this happen to anyone else when learning another language?

We Answered:

Sometimes. Your subconscious has probably come to associate certain words(english) with the equivalant in the other language. After all, the whole idea in laearning another language is in thinking the idea the way that culture does. Take it as a good sign.

Gina Said:

Are the terms "approach, method and techniques" reserved to language learning and teaching?

We Answered:

I'm not sure what you're asking. "Approach", "method", and "technique" are used all over education.
Can you clarify your question?
