Can you recommend good language-teaching software?

We Answered:

I have never used Rosetta Stone to try and learn a language, but I spent a couple years working as an ESL tutor at a community college and we used the English version of Rosetta Stone. I've thought of getting the Spanish version myself as I took a few years of Spanish and would like to keep learning, especially in a conversational manner.

I think it's decent from what I could see, but again, I wasn't learning on it myself. I did spend several hours training on it though (in English, which I'm fluent in) to get an idea of how it works so I could help students, and I'd say it's pretty easy to use. At the same time, if you don't have any clue what you are doing or know any Spanish already, you might be in trouble. There were some students who didn't really know any English and they'd waste hours on it not learning anything because they just wanted credit for spending time working. But if you're actually trying and know a bit of Spanish already, it should be good.

Where can u find that amazing language teaching software for young babies?

We Answered:

I would suggest Muzzy

http://www.early-advantage.com/

They suggest using the lowest level with ages 2-7. I have used part of it with children as young as 15 months.

It is a bit pricey, but I feel it would be well worth it(if not they let you try it for free)!

*if you sign up for newsletter..they often send really good deals!

Best language-teaching software?

We Answered:

I don't know if this will help but why do you want Rosetta Stone specifically? As a beginner, learning vocabulary is not the best approach. Rosetta Stone, like other flashcard based methods, helps expand your vocabulary base but they will not teach you the core of the language and conversational skills. Knowing many words doesn't mean you can speak the language. I usually recommend Pimsleur to beginner students. If you want a method that focuses on conversational and reading skills, Pimsleur is the reference imo. It's a real confidence builder, which is essential for new students. You will learn to train your ear to understand natives (an essential part of early learning often overlooked by other methods), develop very good pronunciation and acquire the core structures and grammar of your new language (Exactly what RS fails to do.) It's also almost half the price of RS (check Amazon) and has been around for much longer than Rosetta. They don' have the constant mind-numbing infomercials like Rosetta but I firmly believe that it's a far better product for any beginner. Good luck.
