How to get a teaching job in Latin America?

We Answered:

I'm living in Quito now. I know that almost anyone can teach English. But considering your background I suspect you are looking for something different. I know a number of Ph.D candidates from U.S. schools who have considered working in some posh high schools for $1400us a month plus travel stipend and little Spanish required.

If you have the degree in hand and are looking for jobs. I think your best bet is to come to Ecuador as a tourist and start to make contacts. You can't get anything done here without knowing somebody. But meeting people isn't that hard. And the cost of living isn't much. Depending on where you live it's 300$ a month rent for a nice place in a safe neighborhood in Quito/Guayaquil/Cunca (major cities).

If you are single, I think you best bet is to move to Ecuador and teach English temporarily. Teaching English will pay well enough to support you, especially if you have some cash stowed away somewhere. While teaching English try to find the better paying full time teaching position and make the contacts to get it.

Good Luck

Mario Said:

I want to move somewhere in Latin America, can anybody help recommend a country or organization?

We Answered:

why dont you contact voluntray service overseas VSO because they will pay your basics and will put you in touch with their contacts for community work and your place of stay will be organised its a good network of people and safer than going it alone in Latin America
I have been all around Venezuela an amazing experience if well planned if not you will definately be robbed or have difficulties as there is no rail network Merida a town in Andes is amazing it is on two plateaus with bridges linking the town
so if you put VSO in your serch engine you might find yourself being sent to an adventure behond your dreams
happy travelling and blessings
