Effective teaching method or just cruel? We Answered:
it is less cruel and more appropriate than pulling his hair (not criticizing that at all -- just saying this is a MUCH better response). i mean, think about it: it absolutely teaches him the real consequence to pulling hair (or biting or slapping or whatever) which is that the other person is hurt. THAT is exactly what you want him to learn. so if it is effective, which it seems to be, it is no at all cruel. i understand that his crying in response seems to make it so, but, you know, he is going to cry in response to lots of things still -- including being told no. speaking of which, i would still say "no" the first time he pulls and go to the fake cry as a second response when the no doesn't work. you still want the "no" to have (or in bradley's case, gain) the power. i mean, all "nos" won't be in situations when tears are appropriate. but, anyway: not cruel. i'm interested to see if it works permanently!Carmen Said:
How do I teach a small group of students? We Answered:
follow these steps and you will do just fine,First, make sure you understand the material that you are presenting very well.
Second, explain the few concepts and then give example, and example and examples.
make sure you do not go over dry concepts and theory too much without giving examples. so, little theory and then examples, little theory and then examples ... etc
Make sure you have something visual to show them. People no matter how mature they are, like toys and pictures. Show (instead of only tell) lots of examples.
If you do that, you will succeed and people will absorb the material without even reading.

What teaching method was most effective for you as a student in your history classes? We Answered:
One year I had a history teacher who just put questions on the board. We were to answer them on paper while he read the newspaper - EVERY DAY. That wasn't effective. Then, I had an advanced social studies class with a teacher who encouraged discussion and actively taught critical thinking skills, even how to analytically eliminate multiple choice answers on tests. (That was helpful). Her class was very engaging.
I try to do the same for my students and vary the routine. Sometimes instead of reading the textbook, we'll read a reproducible comic with the same information. Or I assign topics and the students teach the lesson. History always seems to be my students' favorite subject (I teach seven daily).
