Learn to read music.

Practice your favorite songs over & over.

Try your highschool or middle school music teachers. They may be willing to teach you at or after school for a smaller fee.

Piano teachers: What method of teaching do you use?

We Answered:

it really depends on the student...different students have their good and bad faults. For example, if it is someone who can learn music really fast then I would use the sight-reading method because they have the knack for it, but if it is a beginner or someone then I would use the counting method.

Best method for teaching piano to adult beginners?

We Answered:

Take a look at the Adult Piano Method by Faber and Faber. I believe it is titled Adult Piano Adventures. I have used almost every adult piano method on the market, and this is by far my favorite.
You would still want to supplement with other books, particularly a genre of music that interests the student, but this series would provide a wonderful foundation.
You can learn more about this method on this website: http://www.fjhmusic.com/piano/apa.htm

Feel free to contact me with other questions that may come up during the course of your teaching.
Good luck to you and your student!

Music for Little Mozarts - Has anyone used this piano teaching method?

We Answered:

I have taught it for years. Smaller children and younger beginners love the series, especially Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse. This series is perfect for non-readers because it is so graphically visual and interactive. I have taught all of the books. The important thing is for the teacher to go slowly so that all of the concepts are absorbed by the student. Also, teachers should vary the activities during the course of a lesson so the child doesn't get bored. I usually only have a 20-25 minute lesson with children ages three and four because their attention spans are not much greater than that, and they will not absorb anything much past that time frame, anyway. But, I love the series and it fits perfectly into the more advanced Alfred Basic Piano Series books, so when she can read and moves on to those, they will build on what she already learned rather than having her go through the whole process again!
