What is a good 6th Grade-level Science Experiment?We Answered:
These sites have or point to lots of science fair project ideas. They'll probably take much longer than 45 minutes, but you might find some ideas that you could adapt to your time frame.http://www.sciencebuddies.org/

Science help plz? ?We Answered:
1. When you burn magnesium, it emits a bright white flame2. Before - silvery colours and pliable. After, blackened and brittle
3. Not sure - the solution is magnesium hydroxide, but wter burns off leaving amgnesium oxide and hydrogen gas
4. Magnesium is the element, magnesium oxide is the compound and water and magnesium oxide would be the mixture
Magnesium/Magnesium oxide is the solid, water would be the liquid and (when it vaporises0 hydrogen is the gas
5 - can't draw - sorry!

Help organizing teaching themes, and all activities for that theme? We Answered:
As a teacher, he is what I have seen in other classrooms that I find useful or ideas that I have done myself.1. Since books can be used for a variety of different topics, I organize my books separately from other supplies. My personal library is organized by: Holidays, Myths Fairy Tales and Folktales, Science, Math, Cultures and Awareness (my autistic, divorce books go in this tub too), general fiction but I do group authors together.
2. A teacher I know taught themes only and she had boxes all around her room - on a shelf up high clearly labled. In the box would go all of her books, worksheets, activities, finished art projects to use as examples etc...It took too much work to list everything since wheneve she saw stuff, she just cut it out and stuck it in the box.
A box is the way to go because file folders just don't have enough room. Her boxes were like file boxes you would get at a office store. Mind you after 15 years of teaching, she had like 25 boxes and no room to put them!

where can I buy cheap school supplies for my students? We Answered:
Find the sources in your community. $5.00 a student is asking the teachers to pull a loaves and fishes type miracle. One possibility, look for parents with businesses and see if they would donate pencils imprinted with their business' name and phone number.

I just got a job at a very underfunded school with almost no supplies. I could really use some advice? We Answered:
I taught art a similarly underfunded school for five years. Although it's not science, art is similar in its need for supplies and resources.First, I would check your local area for places that might offer free supplies to school teachers. I am in the Chicago area and there is one place where you can get things that rich schools get rid of (have seen beakers, notebooks, paper, art supplies, books, etc... there. There is another place that gives brand new supplies that companies have excess of. If you are in my area please let me know and I will give you the names/phone #s.
Second, send home a welcome letter to your student's parents greeting them and asking them for their contac info. Then, a week later, send home a volunteer letter asking if any of them would want to volunteer. Give options for volunteering at school and at home. One of your volunteer at home options should be 'donate supplies.' Although the parents at my school rarely participated in school events they were very ready to donate supplies (which really surprised me!).
Third, go around to companies and ask for donations. Maybe there is someway you could give them some advertisements such as in a newsletter or putting company fliers at the next PTA meeting.
Look on Craigslist under 'free'. There is a TON of stuff there that people are giving away everyday. I have seen art supplies on there before. You could also post a listing asking for donations.
Use recycled/trash for projects whenever possible.
Sign up with donorchoose.org so people can send you free supplies.
Check with your cafeteria. Are there any supplies that they throw away and go to waste that you can use?
Good luck!

What are the regulations in the US regarding personal/homeschool use of lab equipment/supplies?We Answered:
We've never had a problem ordering any chemicals or supplies online. HS mom shared a great link that we've ordered a lot on (homesciencetools), I'm thinking that we've hit a great deal of the same things that I did in college chemistry. The glassware is professional grade, and the chemicals are inexpensive and there are a large variety. We've gotten everything we need.
We've also lucked out and bought a bunch of stuff from our local university overflow sales, and got a bunsen burner with gas, lots of pipettes, and hundreds of test tubes for very little cash.
