secondary mathematics teachers teaching grade schoolers - a boon or a bane?We Answered:
There has been an awful lack of mathematic teachers in the school that I teach at - so, I've been teaching everything from the 4th grade all through 12th grade seniors. I can honestly say that the two don't really mix.So, in going from teaching secondary math to grade school math, I think that it's more of a "bane" than a "boon". One really needs to be creative (and visual) around grade schoolers in order to teach certain abstract aspects of mathematics (like division), whereas in secondary teaching you can just teach abstract concepts much more easily (like functions). Not every secondary math teacher has this gift or talent. It CAN be done, but it really - really - depends on the teacher: his/her personality and creativity.
There are different mindsets for the different levels of teaching - the key is to know which is which.
Hope I helped! :-)

What is the best way of teaching a mathematics lesson in secondary school? We Answered:
There are so many factors that go into the way we teach, like the number of kids in your class, the "chemistry" of the students, the concept you're teaching, the ability level of your students... I'm sure all teachers have had the experience of a lesson going over very well with one class and then bombing the next class. :)The best advice I have is to make the students comfortable to ask questions in class. There is a fear of looking dumb in math classes that most people seem to have. If a teacher can establish an environment in which kids know that know one is going to laugh at their question and that the teacher will take the time to explain everything, then most lessons will be successful.
So, in summary, teach in a way that gives students time to ask questions and confidence that you will support and answer any question they have.
Oh yeah: and the teacher shouldn't spend the whole time talking, or students tune out. Intersperse guided practice throughout the lesson, and give students the chance to talk with a partner about how they got their answers. :)

technology use in teaching of mathematics in the secondary classroom? We Answered:
If you want technology in teaching math ideas, you could cover how computers help with learning and practicing concepts. An opposing view might be how using technology forgoes learning the basics makes people dependent on them.I think the other answer was opposite, math in technology. Binary, Hexadecimal and Octal number set are used by computers. Algebra teaches logic concepts, used by programmers. Trigonometry teaches spacial relationships used in engineering and design. Calculus applies to other items such as charge and discharge of a capacitor or inductor.

I'm not exactly sure what your question is but I know in my high school most of our math classes use graphing calculators, which is pretty cool technology!Shannon Said:
philosophy on teaching mathematics in senior secondary school? We Answered:
There is an article posted in the web, if you use the yahoo search engine , entitled "Philosophy of Teaching" by G. Keith Foster. He began his article with a quote from Anatole France
"The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it after wards."
I do agree with this philosophy in teaching Mathematics. We should awaken the curiosity of our students to the world around them, introducing the basic concept of mathematics from the rising sun to the night owl. Each substance of nature presents formation and insights to the fundamental concepts of mathematics. This curiosity will whet their appetite to know more of mathematical concepts that is the very essence of their life.

Is it hard to get into mathematics for secondary teaching? We Answered:
There is a major demand for math teachers. There are many math positions filled by non math people. You can apply to the education department of universities and take math classes as a minor./
