Does General Kutusov's successful strategy against Napoleon teach us something about Iraq today? We Answered:
The comparison is flawed, Al Qaeda cannot inflict a military defeat on the US. Their only chance of victory is in the political arena, sadly liberals seem to want to give it to them. And yes, there are historical models for "an American achievement of its goals.." They're called Germany and Japan.

What learning style are you?We Answered:
Far too many teachers have spent far too much time trying to identify learning styles only to put students into one category. Remember it is a profile which demonstrates a preference and a profile. Your pedagogy has to be eclectic, Your written presentations to staff, parents, class and on this site has to be impeccable. Too many of you fall short in this latter demand.Holly Said:
Do you have any great strategies for teaching the verbal response of YES and NO to AUTISTIC STUDENTS?We Answered:
I was going to say PECS but if he is already using it then get Yes/No PECS cards.Edit: I am not sure what level of PECS he is on but maybe to teach this concept you need to go back to Phase One just for this concept.
If he says yes to the empty cup then give him the empty cup. Then allow for some error connection where as on the second time you have your prompter behind him guiding him to the "no" card instead.
Also because PECS really is about choices and discrimination then I would only use the empty cup at first. Having the filled cup and empty cup at the same time I am thinking he is associating one card to mean "empty cup" and one car to the "filled cup" instead of actually being "yes/no".
So I would just start out with one thing at a time such as the empty cup, present it to him and say "Want cup" and have him make the choice between the 2 cards. This can also be done with the full cup yet because you know he wants it then the prompter would be guiding his hand to the yes card.
Once he has really mastered yes/no with one stimulus at a time (meaning he can choose correctly without the prompter behind him) then introduce the concept of having 2 different stimulus items.
However I must say that this whole concept kind of defeats the purpose of PECS to me. PECS actually works to enhance communication where as simple "yes/no" responses seem to be limiting to communication. Especially during snack time. during snack time PECS allows the child to choose their snacks independently and there for be the one to initiate the communication. Presenting 2 choices and sitting there asking the child "You want this" and waiting for a response of yes/no seems to totally cut off the child's initiation of communication. Also think of this in a realistic approach. If you were ordering at McDonald's, would you stand there as the cashier asked "You want a Big Mac" (then you replied "no")..."You want a Double Cheeseburger" (again you reply "no") and do this until she finally got to the item you wanted where you could reply "yes" or would you simply go in there and say "I want..."?
Sorry this is so long. LOL PECS is a little difficult to discuss in an answer. Email me if you want.
