What are some challenges a general education teacher might experience when teaching challenged children? ?We Answered:
With the mainstreaming of special ed students in the general education classroom, teachers are faced with many challenges. These could be dealing with student's behaviors. Behaviors are usually kept in balance by having classroom procedures that are followed consistently. (See Harry Wong)Other challenges are meeting the various abilities in your classroom. You need to differentiate your lessons to meet the needs of all learners. (high regular and low)
I would do as much research on the net as possible.

What year would you teach sex ed if you were a teacher? We Answered:
Ninth year. And I would teach the erogenous zones on BOTH sexes, the importance of foreplay, the failure rate of certain birth control methods, the STD failure rate of others. I would show a woman giving birth. I would give statistics on deadbeat dads.Ninth years are loaded with sexual myths and don't know squat. Early exposure might make them more responsible.

What path should I pursue if I want to teach in a college teacher education program? We Answered:
What lofty goals for someone who isn't a teacher YET. My best advice as a former teacher, current administrator and an occasional university instructor in an ed. leadership program, BE A CLASSROOM TEACHER FIRST. It will add to your credibility and give you experience. It doesn't take a PhD or a DEd to be a university instructor in either a teacher ed or ed leadership program. However, it does take expertise and experience. Finish your ed degree, be a good little teacher while you work on your masters, and ease yourself into the higher ed field.Christine Said:

Does a Special Education teacher have less advantages than a Behavior Therapist when teaching autistic kids?We Answered:
A Special education teacher has an advantage over the behavior therapist (in my opinion) because they are trained to include the varying degrees of autism, learning disabilities, as well as physical disabilities.Behavior therapist have the option of working in group homes, hospitals, social services (like family protective serves), and rehabilitation centers. Your possible job/career options are more than that of a special education. A special education teacher can asseccess, and teach. I pray this helps.
Blessings

Teacher Education..?We Answered:
Depends on your state requirements; find out. However, many of us Teachers of A Certain Age majored in favorite subjects (mine was Economics) and then proceeded to get an elementary credential...and it was okay, then. The general ed requirement is apparently intended to give you a brad overview of knowledge, since you will be teaching many subjects. However, you are teaching children, and you've already learned a good deal of this already, so it shouldn't be a problem. Just keep abreast of your subject matter & study ahead of the children and you should be fine.As far as a minor goes, the same thing applies. Learn what you want to and make it work for you, as long as the state requirements permit. They all differ, so be sure to check out the specifics for the state you wish to teach in. Personally, I think psych SHOULD be at least a minor subject for all educators...[full disclosure: my MA is in clinical psych and boy, does it help.]
