Middle School Language Arts Teachers...?

We Answered:

I LOVED teaching middle school. But you have to find the right school that fits you.

I did a lot of Literature Circles in various genre's and Writer's Workshops. We did a lot Short Story study. I also did a lot of tie-in units with the Social Studies teacher (i.e. they studied Salem Witch Trials, we read Witch of Blackbird Pond). Your units will depend on the curriculum in your area.

I respected the kids and they respected me. They knew that I did not play - but we would have fun in my class. But I had a great team, great principal, so I had a lot of fun teaching there myself.

Ask to job shadow a MS teacher before you invest time and money. Most would be happy to have someone check out becoming a teacher.

What all do language arts teachers teach in elementary school?

We Answered:

Here is the issue you need to look into:

all elementary teachers teach all subjects. They have self-contained classrooms - the kids stay with them all day.

If you become a secondary teacher- then you specialize.

Look into your states certification process - you will find that elementary education teachers have different requirements than secondary teachers. Your subject matter verification test will cover all subjects.

Willie Said:

Why is teaching looked down upon?

We Answered:

I answered a question recently and told about my desire to become a teacher since I was about 5 years old.

The money in teaching is lower than what very bright people could make in the private sector however, many good hearted and caring people teach and can be comfortable in their life. You can not expect to live like a "rock star" and have brand new clothes and a brand new car and live in a mansion but the benefits are there for those with children because you are off of school when your kids are so you do not have to worry about getting a sitter. You will have reasonable health insurance and will learn to get things for free for your classroom. Somedays you will love your job and sometimes you will go home crying and the next day a child will say I love you Miss Chanteuse.

And despite what some say about "bad" teachers, everyone you meet will say " I could not do that job for all the money in the world - you deserve alot of credit."

Stick with it your dream and you will be a very happy person. Money and fancy things do not buy happiness.

Should elementary children have one main teacher or several?

We Answered:

It should be normal for Students to have different Teachers for Extra--Activities by 2nd or 3rd grade. (Art, Gym, Library,..)

The schools I went to started the multi-teachers for the basic skills in 5th grade.

Personally it seems like the More Teachers,.. the Better. Especially if it cuts down Student to Teacher Ratios. When a school has those many teachers, they try to put the teachers or classes for that grade on a "Rotation". So that the grde is atleast split in two.

The less students per class, the more personal things get and the easier it is on the Teachers to distinguish students apart. This makes learning and getting help much easier. It also helps structure the mind so task/work/projects only go for so long.

When you are a student though (the child) and this set up doesn't do much for Student Teacher Ratio ( anotherwards they have the same Students to Teachers as they would have had without this set up) it just seems stupid and like it consumes time. Especially since schools prefer the Students Wander from Classroom to Classroom between periods, instead of the teacher, and some of your classmates never settle down or purposely create distractions with their lies about how they need to do this and that first,.. they really want to make noise.

The best thing is the least number of students to teacher,.. however you work that out. However, there are some times good teachers in schools set up like this that know their subject well enough it is the equivilant of if you went to a Professor right now. So some times the Teachers are worth any negatives because they have learned how to get through to different types of people,.. that couldn't understand their original babble on their favorite subject.

In Elementary School it seemed like the more running around, the more sneeky, divious and sparticly energetic the students could get. As a result if a change was interrupted or a Teacher wasn't in class long enough, the Boys would start fighting or standing on their desk yelling at each other. The girls would talk about their boyfriends and sex, while trying to do things to the teachers stuff. And couples would start makeing out,.. yes 5th graders do have boyfriends/girlfriends, make out sessions, and sex. But adults are VERY out of touch and want to protect Fantasies,.. so they keep kids away from things like Sex Ed until they get an STD or Pregnant in Middle School or High School. Don't fight the Sex Ed. Oh ya and at that one school they would make drug deals and talk about their dealer. These were rich brats,.. normal kids can't afford to deal with that stuff until High School.
