Teaching English for the GEPIK Program?

We Answered:

I HIGHLY recommend GEPIK or anything that isn't a hagwon, i.e. private cram school. Mine is hell on earth and its certainly not the worst out there. I know public can be frustrating what with a korean co-teacher always in the classroom and large classes of students at vastly different levels, but, still, its much better than hagwon hell. I'm not sure about any sites specifically devoted to GEPIK, but if you haven't found it yet, dave's esl forum, can provide a lot of helpful information.

Anyone familiar with an English teaching program in Japan?

We Answered:

There aren't really any private companies that'll pay your way over there and give you all the same benefits as JET does.

I did JET also, and I'm sure you know as well as me that it's the best option for teaching English in Japan. If you're really determined to go back to Japan and teach English, I can suggest BorderLink, which is similar to the companies you mentioned.

If you'd prefer to make more money over returning to Japan, I can definitely suggest EPIK, which is Korea's equivalent to the JET Programme. You get all the same benefits as JET: free airfare, housing, health insurance, etc. Unlike JET though, they'll give you a settlement allowance upon arrival in Korea (about $500), allow you to get another job on the side of your main one, giving you the option to make more money (which JET strictly prohibits), and recruitment is semi-annual (rather than just annual like JET).

Hope you make it back over to Asia regardless of what you choose.
Peace!

What teaching english program in japan is the best and has the most benefits? nova, jet, geos, aeon ect..?

We Answered:

I teach in Taiwan, not Japan, so am far from an expert, but have researched some of these things myself before I went overseas. Also, I have many friends who have spent time in Japan and have heard about their experiences.

From what I gather, the JET program is by far the best if you can get into it. It's government run, so you don't have to worry about shady contracts and false promises. Aside from that, you're better off sticking with the big names (like Nova) that you mentioned, as they have a reputation to uphold.
