I am thinking of doing a year's contract teaching english in south korea. Any advice?

We Answered:

dont be forced to take the first job thats offered. work on YOUR timetable...not theirs.

30 hrs a week usually means in class time...not total time at the school.

make sure to get contact info (email) of the current teachers there or even better, the former teachers.

if u are a non-white foreigner, u have a better chance at getting a job at a public school than a hagwon.

university jobs usually only hire applicants that are already in korea.

if u must use a recruiter, its ok to use more than more at a time to find the best job.

do ur research online on any school that gives u an offer. facebook has a group called 'hagwon blacklist'.

Angel Said:

english teaching in south korea, from South Korea's President MyungBak Lee?

We Answered:

Yes, you also have to pass an STD test and do a criminal background check. They changed the laws earlier this year because of some child rapist, though, that rapist didn't have a criminal background before he went to Korea.

The pay for college students is much less, more of a stipend plus food and housing (maybe $70 a month for spending money); higher pay ( a few thousand a month) is for people with a 4 year degree.
