I would like to teach english to a chinese friend of mine. Where do I start? We Answered:
A......B.......C.......Unless you speak Chinese, I would use photos as an aid. That way when you show them a photo of a bus, at least they understand what word your trying to teach.
Children's books are also good for this.
Just brain storming.

In teaching English words, I am making picture cards. Shoud a pic card be with the word or without the word?We Answered:
I would split it into three stages.Firstly, show them the picture with the word on it. Get their eyes get used to the picture and the word. Say it out loud together etc.
Secondly, show the picture but not the word this time and test if they remember. If they don't give them a hint of what the first letter was. If that doesn't work then show them the picture + word (first one).
Thirdly, have the words written on separate flash cards and get them to match the picture with the word. They'll love doing that.
Simplify your pictures and words and don't use very busy images. Clipart or realea normally fits best.
Hope this helps.

question about teaching tips and skills and ideas? We Answered:
Whenever teaching a language, you need to impart the following to your students - first, know what you want to say, then learn how to do it. sounds oversimplified, but too often, people tend to focus on the 'mechanics' of the language being taught, and miss out on the 'learning' aspect...Leslie Said:

How can I start teaching english? We Answered:
I teach English to Adults as a second language but I'm not sure what you need to teach 8 year olds. Possibly a degree. (For further advice go to talent.ac.uk - lots of teachers to advice you).Meanwhile, look for an after-school club where you can spend an hour or two teaching or Saturday mornings. This will give you some experience. There are lots of people who start teaching and then get the qualifications later.
Secondly, if you are in the UK, you would need a CRB - it's like a personal check done on you to ensure that you are okay to teach youngsters. (which I'm sure you can) Just the formalities of teaching.
Best wishes
