Is there an accelerated teaching class for students that show similar signs of being gifted set apart/special?We Answered:
Yes.Its called the International Bacclauriate Program, or the I.B. program.
Its a much higher academic level and gives them a high school diploma that is recognized internationally. Sometimes it also excuses them from taking a first year of university.
The problem with the IB program is that it does not work very well with students who are gifted artistically, but rather in a math/science arena.

How do I teach a class with one student who has a learning disability, two with ADHD, and two gifted students? We Answered:
Very carefully! It isn't fair to lumber you with such diverse creatures as the bright ones will be held back, the two with ADHD will be disruptive and the one with learning disability affected child may feel totally out of it. See if you can get a classroom assistant to help with the one with the learning disability, make sure you separate the ones with ADHD (as they will only egg each other on to make mischief) and if your bright students really are good, should they go to a different school or class where they can get the special education they need too? They may become very bored with having to plod at the usual pace for the majority of the class, so it might be worth investigating that. Maybe they could be advanced a year if not.
Hope this helps.

What is a great novel to use with my 7th grade gifted students? We Answered:
Monster by Walter Dean Myers is a good one. You can get all sorts of discussions going about right and wrong being relative, whether there's real justice in the justice system, what defines art, what defines truth, etc. It's a great book. I think it's read in 9th grade in my district, but if you've got gifted 7th graders, it's certainly a good choice.Cathy Said:
which teaching methods are best for gifted and talented students? We Answered:
This would greatly depend on what subject area they are gifted in. Here are a few examples:Music - encourage creativity, compositional skills, listening skills, increase the complexity of notation writing. Encourage research work, independent thought and analysis. Team building exercise - conduct a group of other students music.
English - increase word power, summarise texts in 'own' words. Analyse topical stories in newspapers (broadsheets are best). Maintain a vocabulary book of 'difficult' or unusual words. Write book reviews.
Maths - develop problem solving skills, application to real life situations. Develop computer models to solutions to match problems. Research into aspects of history and development of Maths. Look at media stories [eg ref 1]
Science - reports on topical issues. Research into a particular scientific specialism.
IT/Computing - Develop relational database/queries/reports. Investigate programming languages; development of computers; develop a website; investigate applications of IT etc.
Art - Keep a sketch pad. Organise a gallery of pictures. research into the history of art.
Whatever the subject, keep it current and alive.
Hope this has given some food for thought.

What does one major in to teach gifted students? We Answered:
there are no credentials specifically for gate students. In fact, most schools will not have enough GATE kids to offer separate classes. There is training - but that will not happen until you have a credential -- districts sponsor ongoing training. One of your credential classes will deal specifically with GAtE.
Schools that cater to gifted kids - such as a "highly gifted" magnets - might look for people with traditional credentials but with experience under their belt.

I am finishing up student teaching and I want to get the students a gift?We Answered:
Maybe a "Holiday Bag" consisting of:A holiday pencil
A holiday eraser
Stickers?
Ect.
All of the stuff can be bought EXTREMELY cheap at wishing well or even the dollar store. What is the age of th students? Hope this helps!
*by the way, a lot of people suggested a pizza party, and this would definitley be cheap, but may not be the best idea because it is unoriginal and food allergy forms would have to be sent home to ensure legal safety.
