I was recently released from student teaching high school math for poor performance. Should I give up teaching? We Answered:
Try again. Can you sub in CA? You should have sometime. This would be a time to sub, if you can. The reason for it will give you some time in the classroom on your own. Subs need good classroom management skills.
I would also suggest that you go to behind the Orange Curitan and try there. I would NOT go back to the same school.

How to Become a California Public High School Math Teacher without a BS in Math.?We Answered:
It would seem that you don't need a bachelor's in math, just to pass a proficiency test. You will need a teaching credential. Granted, this is only for the 5-year preliminary certification, but surely you can get the rest of it together in that time. http://www.teachcalifornia.org/require/b…http://www.teachcalifornia.org/tours/tea…

Can I teach a high school math class with a minor in math?We Answered:
YES! Don't listen to those who say you can't. As long as you're willing to be a substitute teacher, or work in some of the worst inner city schools out there, you're as good as in.The Frederick Douglass High School in inner city Baltimore was recently featured on an HBO documentary. It was revealed the 2/3 of those teaching there, are not certified teachers. Of course the turnover is so high, no one will usually stay long. For your own safety though, it'd be best if you were at least a 2nd degree black belt in karate or some form of martial arts.

Is someone with an MS in chemical engineering eligible to teach high school math?We Answered:
It depends on the regulations in your state. In California, for example, if you don't do a specialized program in math (even if you did major in math) approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, you have to be approved by examination. The current test is called the CSET, and if you pass, you are cleared to teach secondary math (assuming you clear all the other requrements).
Check to see what organization certifies teachers in your state...whatever the CCTC is for you. They should have a website with the requrements.
Good luck!

I have a bachelors in engineering. I would like to try teaching high school math. What's the quickest route? We Answered:
Some states such as California let you take a subject test and if you pass it you will be considered qualified to teach that subject. You can propably expect to have to pick up a few other classes that are requirements for your state, and possibly have to take some other standardized testing. Contact your county's office of education, or your state's teacher certicification agency to get info.
