Sheila Said:

Can I become a high school teacher with a degree in Geology?

We Answered:

Usually they would expect you to transfer from Geology into Geoscience, but you can probably work it out with your Geology dept head to take the pre-teaching classes as a Geology major. Usually they're pretty flexible about things like that.

Yes, you can teach highschool, but you will be competing with other teachers who have teaching credentials and may not get the offers. They are a lot of teachers today looking for entry level teaching jobs. So anything that you can bring to the interview with you will carry weight. Some actual Geologic job experience will carry weight when you do deceide to teach.

Once on the job at a school you will be expected to obtain a certificate and work towards a masters degree.

can i teach high school with a bachelors in computer science?

We Answered:

Yes, definitely. You would need to get a Single Subject Credential in order to teach any subject for High School. You should find a grad program where they offer this credential in Computer Science.

Public high school require teachers to have a Single Subject Credential, however Private high schools can play by their own rules and may hire you without one. As a teacher, I can say that it would be very rewarding and fun!! Good luck.

Did kent hovind really teach high school science for 15 years?

We Answered:

That's probably true. Private schools can hire whoever they want, regardless of qualifications, and he certainly isn't qualified to teach anyone anything. His dissertation was posted online for a while - it was pretty hilarious. For a PhD dissertation, it read like something a freshman would turn in in high school English and a C for. You can read parts of it here still.

Can I teach high school science in South Carolina without a teaching certificate?

We Answered:

No, I don't believe so. I'm applying for a teaching job there and they stress you need your certificate

Isaac Said:

Where did Kent Hovind teach High school science?

We Answered:

Kent Hovind never taught science in a public school. He set up his own school and church in the 80s after teaching at private Baptist schools.

Please note, that his PhD. is in Christian education and not science. Also note, that he is in jail for tax evasion.

Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing.

Is there a need for assistance with teaching high school level science classes for home schooled children?

We Answered:

Often there is.

One homeschooled teen organized his own "high school" and when a few of his friends wanted to learn something, they'd hire a tutor and pay as a group for the instruction.

There was a science teacher here in Silicon Valley who converted an old bus into a science lab. He'd arrange with all the area support groups to arrive early at park days, and the interested kids would hop aboard his "Rocket Science Ship" for an hour's lesson before the rest arrived. (I think the bus broke down and he's now does this from home.)

I get this question quite often, something like 3 times a week! Homeschooling seems to attract public school teachers almost as much as students. So I wrote the article linked below.

Teachers are letting their creativity FLY with homeschoolers, and we're enjoying their joy in their subject matter, too.

You do need to figure out if there is enough demand in your local area. If not, consider an online blog within a homeschool site such as A2Z homeschool blogs.
