You would need to check certification requirements with whatever state you were thinking of moving to. But they are slashing jobs everywhere - including schools.Lloyd Said:

I am a primary school teacher in Ireland thinking about a new start. What is it like teaching in America? We Answered:
here is a good run down of this occupation in America. Don't know much about Ireland education, but teaching at the primary school level here is pretty good. The salary information seems a bit inflated to me, but everything else looks okay.I wouldn't ever teach at the middle school level here. The kids are horrible at that age and it also makes a difference WHERE you teach. If you get into a low socioeconomic middle or high school, you and the kids will likely have to go through medal detectors every day and pass armed guards at the door.
Good luck.

What are they teaching people about America? We Answered:
People on this site are talking about putting crocks in the water, building a wall, hiring minutemen to shoot illegals.I don't think that is being taught in schools. But if she were to spend 5 minutes on Answers, in the USA - immigration section, she would see those kinds of responses.
I am ashamed of many of my countrymen's attitudes. All I can do is control mine, and set an example that some might choose to follow.

Any Teaching Fellows in New York or Teach For America workers? We Answered:
There have been studies done in this particular area, and the conclusion was that teachers from these programs were indeed shortchanging the children and the community. One result was that the veteran teachers had better results than these teachers in test scores. The point of the programs is that because the potential applicants are bright students from top colleges, they can, with "training", teach the students with little or no experience. The "training" that they do give you is very rigid, and seems to me, to emphasize too much on testing skills, and too little on actual fluid knowledge.

what's the best university in America teaching Photography? We Answered:
I would assume that "BEST" university (of any subject) would be impossible to get in to. Not only that to get in to BEST university, you would have to already have compiled an impressive portfolio. I know because my sister went to Pratt Institute of NY (a pretty well internationally respected school). After graduation she had an art school who prepared many young people's portfolio.Top university don't take students who start from zero at freshman year. She started her art career at kindergarten.

But here's a little tidbit about photography: you don't need to go to the "BEST" or even a GREAT photography school. Unlike so many other art, photography is something that many self taught people make great living (and even become great artist).
So search around. Depending on your finance, location, skill level, you will find something that's suitable to you. But that's something only you can do in research. Only you know what is right for you. If you are in school (high school) ask your counselor. Call the local universities and visit them. Speak to their freshman counselors.
Don't get suckered into schools with high profile marketing. Don't get believe their "our graduates make X thousands of dollars per year" pitch. One prominent California university were recently fined for such false statement. Many (or even most) of the art students go unemployed - that's a fact.

The last school (ICP) is a famed photography school, founded by Cornelle Capa (brother of Robert Capa). These are the guys who defined what modern fine art photography is. Many of the NY area photography students takes course during and after their own school education.
Good luck.
P.S. I went to NYU - 3.1 GPA (not for photograph). My brother went to NYU then Brown U. My brother-in-law went to Princeton. My another sister also went to NYU. And the sister above went to Pratt institute. Have tons of friends in NYC area who majored in art (schools above). So I have some experience advising about colleges. :-)
