We Answered:

The same reason they dont have CBSE in America. Because we are in India.

There are a few schools that teach the american system like the American Embassy School in New Delhi. I am not too sure of Woodstock at Mussorie if they follow the american or British system

Sarah Said:

Why do American schools teach that the Union was the superior force in the Civil War?

We Answered:

The south had more skill for sure. And I think the way in which
in which you asked your question kind of disgraces the south as a southerner but having Southern Pride and not asking a question right is way better than being a damn yankee.

Vicki Said:

What are they teaching in American schools about World War Two?

We Answered:

I don't think there is much revision being made. WWII was one of the few wars where most people felt was justified. The only conroversy I can think of is the Atom Bomb, I get feeling that more and more people are thinking the bombing was justified.

Lester Said:

Is the genocidal treatment of the Native Americans taught in American schools?

We Answered:

Yes, early American history is taught.

Along with that comes the understanding that the Native populations were forced off their lands. That many died from disease, massacres, starvation, slavery and governmental policies.

The students are required to do independent research, debate the pros and cons of policies and conflicts, as well as essay/presentations from the viewpoints of both cultures. Through that process I believe they get a very good understanding of what happened to Native Americans during early colonization.

As a Native American the issue I have is that genocide continued right up to the late 1900s and this is never acknowledged or taught.

It just reinforces the American attitude that what happened 200-500 years ago should be left in the past. No one who suffered is alive and Native Americans should "Just get over it''.

Native Americans don't dwell on what happened 200-500 years ago, because each generation has had to cope the effects of the current genocidal policies.

If schools taught what happened to Native Americans in the past 100 years, they would know that those of us who struggled through those times are still here.

There is no hundreds of years in the past for Native Americans.

EDIT

Just for your information. This is a list of policies over the last 50 years.

The relocation of Native populations. (forced removal)
The reduction of land base of reservations
The termination of hundreds of reservations.
Sterilization of Native Americans
Experimentation on Native populations
The forced removal of Native children (residential schools & adoption)
Abuse, rape and murder of Native children in boarding/residential schools
The current policy of “Self-determination” a positive term for the goal to termination the Native people as a population.
On and on

Do American schools teach a compulsory second language?

We Answered:

it depends. in my town, we really start learning foreign languages after elementary school. in middle school, you choose a language. in high school, you have to take 2 years of a world language of the same language, but colleges recommend 3 at least (3rd doesn't have to be the same language). and different schools have different languages too. my school only have the romantic languages and german. my cousin's school in virginia has all of those and chinese and a few other languages.
