I have been an IT professional since 1980, primarily on IBM Midrange Systems (if you don't know what they are, don't ask because you probably never heard of them) but an important part of that has been to integrate PC type equipment with those systems and into networks. I am fairly current on Windows OS for everything except Windows Vista because businesses are usually not anxious to adopt new, OS versions once they get a certain version working..I have taught basic computing courses as an adjunct professor at the university level. I would be happy to contribute some time to this effort if you can provide guidelines for requirements and approximate deadlines for delivery. I am interested for three reasons, first, I like helping other people discover and enjoy computers and photography, second, I would like to have some of my technical writing evaluated and critiqued and, third, I would like to establish my credentials to possibly produce newsletters or articles for profit as part of a "retirement business" using my photography & computer background.

What basic skills are you thinking about. At that age the best thing is to get some games for learning the alphabet and matching. This will teach them more important skills but also teach them some basic typing and mouse skills.Edna Said:

Numerical information is best recorded on a spread sheet. You can do calculations with it.You can summarise in a Word program.
You can share information by giving a powerpoint presentation.
Feedback can be given in a blog.

Generalization of skills.... taking a skill and using it for a different environment or a different academic subject.Example 1: With a mentally retarded child, we teach hand-washing at one particular sink. Then, we have to take the kiddo around to different sinks and rehearse the same procedure there, too, because the child will not generalize the skill without guidance.
Example 2: I teach a child with a learning disability how to decode a long-vowel spelling pattern. The child returns to regular ed class, and when looking at his/her science textbook, reads words with that spelling pattern without help. The student has generalized the skill independently.
Generalization is extremely useful, and most of us generalize most of our skills without even thinking about it. Imagine not being able to tie your shoes because you sat down at the kitchen table, and you only know how to do it when you sit down on the couch because that's where you were taught it.

more classes, tests and student teaching are the requirements for all credentials - typically you would enroll in a post-bac credentialing program - during which you'd take your tests and student teaching portion. Alternative entrances for larger districts allow you to do all the work while you teach - but you'd be doing the same requirements - just after working and on weekends.

Google IT schools in Atlanta and see what comes up. Its actually going to take a little detective work for you. May I ask why you won't start in the Spring?Another good thing, and depending on how much you want to learn, get a CompTIA book from your looking book store.
I plan on attending school in the spring to get my A+ Certification, but in the meantime I purchased CompTIA A + Ceritification book to begin studying on my own.
