Tanya Said:

can an African American truly get a job teaching in Asia?

We Answered:

I would say probably not Japan but possibly China, Vietnam and maybe South Korea. It really depends. I would do more research to see. Often times recruiters assume they will have a hard time placing qualified African American teachers therefore to strongly discourage applicants. Demand they cite policies, sources and other evidence for their conclusions before coming to any of your own.

What organization will hire me for ESL teaching in Asia with a diploma?

We Answered:

It's not a matter of a company that will hire you, it's more of a legal matter. The question should be 'What country in Asia will hire me with a 2 year diploma (legally)?'

Korea is a no. But you can take up privates, but not recommended.
Japan... not recommended, it is pricey and competition is very high.
Thailand... You can do it but the laws are changing, sooner is probably better than later, next year some nasty laws may come to be.
China... I think that is your best bet, however, visa laws for the summer games are very tight, you may want to wait a few more weeks on that one.
Taiwan... I am not 100%, but I think you may be able to find a job, but they prefer a degree.
Vietnam... you will need to research.
Other countries that are not said are probably yes, but the pay is low and working conditions are not too hot. You probably have to be in the country to find the job too.

My advice is to put your name out on http://eslcafe.com and see what reaction you get. Do not take the first job, take your time and try to find the best place.
Good Luck

Jobs in Asia (not teaching)?

We Answered:

In Asia, Singapore, which is a small country nearly led by the Chinese descendants, and Hongkong, which is a special administrative region of China, are the best places to work in for the foreigners in that those two international financial centres offer a lot of jobs for the foreigners and there are a large amount of foreigners working and living there.

If you would like to come to Mainland China, you can go to Beijing, which is the capital of China, Shanghai, which is the largest city of China, Guangzhou, which is the third largest city of China and the capital of Guangdong Province, and Shenzhen, which is built in Guangdong Province as the most successful modern city in China and the most successful special economic zone of the five special economic zones in China, for jobs.

Meanwhile, you can choose Taipei, the largest city of Taiwan Province of China, which i think it is a good choice as well.

Good luck! Friends!
