Is it easy to find teaching jobs in Alexandria, Egypt?

We Answered:

I was formerly teaching in Egypt. Finding a job depends on your qualifications. It used to be that being a native speaker of English was enough, but now there is an increasing demand for teachers to be certified in their home countries and have Master's degrees. That is mostly in Cairo due to the ever increasing amount of International schools. In Alex, the money will be less. A well qualified teacher in Cairo can expect to make between 4,000 LE and 12,000 LE depending on his/her degree/certifications.

In Alex the salaries should fall between 2,000 LE and 7,000 LE. There are not as many international schools in Alex.

Because I have no college degree, I get offered jobs in schools at the National level only, and offered salaries of 1,500. This is only like $266 US dollars per month. But these schools can't afford to pay foreign teachers rates. The average teacher (Egyptian) in Egypt is only making a salary of 800 LE to 1,500 LE per MONTH. And some of them have Master's degrees from University. Teaching salaries in Egypt are extremely low.

Egypt is not a TEFL country either. You can take the TEFL program here, but it will do little to help you find a job.

What are some good Jobs for Americans in Egypt?

We Answered:

There are American schools in Cairo and in Alexandria. These need qualifications.
Other language schools will not need them but are happy to employ a native speaker. Private lessons are common. You can post an ad in supermarkets, churches or the newspapers.
