How hard is it for an American to get an English-teaching job in Western Europe?

We Answered:

You won't get a English-teaching job just because you are a native English speaker.

Most schools require a language teacher education and experience in teaching languages. If you have this qualification it shouldn't be too difficult to find a job as English teacher in Western Europe.
Here a popular job website: http://www.monster.com/geo/siteselection…

If you don't have a the required qualification you might look for a job in Asia. While traveling in Asia I saw dozens of job offerings for native English speakers. Most of them did not require any teaching education or experience.

Have you ever seen a teacher in Germany wear blue or black jeans?

We Answered:

I made my "Abitur" (university allowance, that is) in 1986, and back then, most of my teachers wore black and blue jeans, and even some of my profs at university did. Jeans still are the common kind of trousers worn by men and women in Germany, and it's absoultely appropriate to wear them when teaching young children. Anything else might seem to be overdressed; but just to be sure, you should ask the headmaster of the school where you're going to teach if special dress codes apply. If not, jeans, shirt, leather shoes, and a casual jacket are absolutely appropriate for a young teacher.

What's the likelyhood i'd get a job in Germany?

We Answered:

Unless you are an EU citizen close to 0
American degrees are not recognized in Germany
You will need a work visa and as a you do not qualify for a visa there are enough teachers here even some are unemployed.
Your only chance would be to work freelance but be aware of very high taxes and do not expect to earn much.

If you are British or Irish citizen go for the try but still be aware you will not earn much.
Also public schools are not available to you since you need to be civil servant as a teacher there and civil servant needs to be a German citizen or a resident during 8 years.
