Emma Said:

Am I gonna have a hard time getting a teaching job in Pa?

We Answered:

Right now the market for teachers is down all over the USA. Many districts are laying off teachers as well as administrators to save money as they are losing state and federal funds due to the effects of the economic recession.

Advice is free: 1) continue searching, but 2) have a back-up plan so you can pay the bills.

You may try private schools or become a substitute teachers ... this way your foot will be in the door, so to speak ...

Good luck with your search ...

Is it hard to get a teaching job in Pittsburgh, PA?

We Answered:

Let's just say that it's definitely easier elsewhere. Pittsburgh has fairly nice salaries for teachers, coupled with a low cost of living. So, they are not exactly having a teacher shortage like some parts of the US. That being said, it's not like Connecticut or something. Not that difficult. Just don't expect to find a job right away. You might have to start off by student teaching.

Jon Said:

Do you have to get a MS within 5 years of starting your teaching job in PA?

We Answered:

Check your state's board of education website for more info because every state is different: http://www.pde.state.pa.us/

Also, I know in some states you have to get a certain amount of credits within the first five years, which can be fulfilled by getting an MS/MAT/MEd but it can also be fulfilled by attending workshops and professional development conferences and such.

Hope this helps.
