I am including the Alberta Teachers Association website as well in case you are interested in broadening your search. You could also contact the Vancouver School Board. I am a NYC public school teacher and I teach in the primary grades.I know many teachers are being hired from other countries, but they are mostly in "hardship areas", that is, in subjects where it is hard to find qualified American teachers.
The areas most likely to need teachers from abroad are:
Middle school or high school math
Middle school or high school science
Spanish language at all levels
There is little need for qualified teachers for general elementary school teaching jobs, and you are unlikely to get a visa based on need for that kind of job.
However, it is worth contacting the NYC Department of Education just to see what they say.
