WHERE WOULD l GO ABOUT LOOKING FOR A TEACHING JOB IN ITALY?

We Answered:

One thing to bear in mind which might be important is that if you do not have a passport from an EU member state then it's very difficult to get a visa to work in Europe. It can be done but it won't be easy.

Since you won't get hired through an online advertisement, the best way is to go to Italy armed with your resume and qualifications (a degree and a TEFL certificate) and then approach the schools directly at the start of the academic year. You may be able to pick up something there and then. If then you work under the radar for a while the school may decide you're so good they'll sponsor you and organise your visa.

It isn't easy but it can be done and many Americans have found work in Europe like this.

I have an AB English degree from the Philippines. How do I get a teaching job in Milan, Italy?

We Answered:

What would you like to teach? If you want to teach English one the easiest ways to find a job in Europe is teaching English at language schools or sometime within the public schools. You might have to get your TEFL certificate though. I have a couple of friends that I met while going through my TEFL training in Prague that are now teaching in Italy. I only have experience with the school I went to in Prague but I loved it. If you want more information about it, you can go to their website: www.teflworldwideprague.com Good luck!

Teaching in Italy - are international schools or Italian schools the way to go?

We Answered:

Molto bene. Apparently the unemployment rate in Italy is high, but there is a demand for English teachers. You didn’t specify what you wanted to teach. If you want to teach English, I would search for the prominent language schools in Italy or advertise as private English teacher.

Ciao!
